The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. The salary offered is estimated to be within the following range: $60,000 - $90,000. Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are still encouraged to apply.

Wawanesa is growing and is currently looking for experienced Commercial Underwriters (intermediate or senior level) for current needs.
Our Commercial Underwriters are responsible for analyzing the acceptability of small to mid-size business according to company guidelines. Working collaboratively with our broker partners, they provide value, expertise and service to both potential and existing policyholders.
This position is from Monday to Friday with flexible core business hours (37.5 hours/week).
Job Responsibilities
- Perform risk analysis using GuideWire as well as external data sources for the purposes of quoting, negotiating, and authorizing the acceptance of risk.
- Arrange reinsurance or subscribing companies where appropriate.
- Determine eligibility for policy renewals based on guidelines and retention goals of the company.
- Maintain accurate records of decisions made and maintain completeness of policy data.
- Communicate decisions and respond to requests in a prompt and professional manner.
- Assist with interpretation of rating procedures, wordings, underwriting policies and regulations.
- Maintain positive working relationships with internal and external parties, including networking at industry events.
- Supports our small-town values and leverages big city strengths through excellent collaboration with our teams towards company goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 3 years of Farm Underwriting.
- Able to communicate in French (spoken and written).
- Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) preferred or working towards the designation - considered an asset
- Provides strong customer services through excellent communication and problem-solving skills
