Job Overview

Working under minimal supervision as a member of the Data Excellence Team within Data Management, this job contributes to Wawanesa success by designing, documenting, testing and supporting data analysis and reporting solutions to meet business stakeholder requirements.


The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a small agile scrum team model that facilitates rapid design, development and implementation of data driven applications with a focus on data quality, profiling and onboarding of new data assets.  


You are someone that will have strong system and business analytical skills with a focus on data warehouse concepts and principles, preferably Kimball based, with a high skillset in Oracle and/or other RDBMS SQL query writing.  As Wawanesa looks to move to the cloud, experience with data warehousing cloud technologies and concepts, especially AWS, would be an advantage.


Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the analysis, design and documentation of both system and business requirements for application enhancements and projects.
  • Take ownership of initiatives by working closely with end users to translate requirements into data-driven applications and reporting solutions (reports and dashboards).
  • Assist the Data Architect in the design and implementation of custom conceptual and logical data models for onboarding new data assets.
  • Lead changes to define and document Data Quality processes and frameworks.
  • Profile data as part of onboarding new or cleansing existing data assets.
  • Lead requirement sessions with business and system teams.
  • Communicate system solutions in business and technical terms.
  • Collaborate with multiple functions to ensure quality software.
  • Provide technical and business leadership for developers and Analysts.
  • Lead the resolution of system and business requirement issues.
  • Create test plans and estimates inclusive of evaluating and providing analysis on requirements documentation and identifying key areas of testing.
  • Lead changes to process and procedure improvements.
  • Follow established practices, processes and guidelines.
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge on current system standards and IS department established methodologies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Completion of post-secondary degree/certificate or equivalent experience.•    
  • Five years’ experience performing systems or business analysis.
  • Advanced analysis and problem solving skills with the ability to prioritize a busy workload.
  • Advanced attention to detail skills to produce high quality deliverables that accounts for all areas involved.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner with style fitting for the audience and message.
  • Excellent planning and organizing skills, with the ability to develop and implement plans by prioritizing and multi-tasking.
  • Good leadership skills to provide support and guidance to team members.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrable knowledge in agile practices, scrum, kanban and continuous delivery.
  • Strong knowledge and experience working with SQL and Kimball based Data Warehouses.
  • Conceptual and logical data modelling experience is considered an asset.
  • Hands on experience working with BI tools and reporting software like MicroStrategy or Power BI is considered an asset.
  • Experience with Data Profiling/Cleansing and associated technologies is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Cloud Computing Concepts and Infrastructure, specifically with AWS tools like Redshift, S3, Athena or Glue) is considered an asset.
  • Experience in programming languages is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience in insurance industry is considered an asset.
