Job Overview

Wawanesa is looking for an exceptional contributor to join our personal lines pricing team in either an Actuarial Analyst II or Senior Actuarial Analyst or Actuary role. You will contribute to the actuarial group based on work experience and knowledge from the actuarial exam system. You will mentor actuarial analysts while applying your knowledge to complex actuarial analysis in the pursuit of solving business issues and answering business questions. The Eastern Canada Personal Lines Pricing team is responsible for auto and property lines in Quebec and Maritimes provinces. The team has analysts in Winnipeg/Montreal, and collaborates with colleagues throughout the organization in order to serve our policyholders while achieving Wawanesa’s business goals. 

 

Peer Review/Mentoring

  • Train/coach staff on actuarial methods and actively share expertise with peers. Review analysis of others 

Actuarial Standards

  • Understanding of current industry and professional standards which impact decisions and indicate requirements

Data Collection

  • Research, extract, and manipulate complex data from all relevant sources. Identify relationships, problems/issues, and assess data quality

Actuarial/Statistical Methods

  • Perform analysis/reviews. Incorporate, understand and transfer knowledge of current methods
  • Identify and test underlying assumptions 
  • Prepare recommendations based on data summaries, trend analysis, financial analysis and business analysis
  • Evaluate procedures and processes and recommend alternatives and improvements

Efficiency

  • Evaluate existing processes to find areas for increased efficiency and opportunities for automation
  • Develop creative new approaches to problem solving

Regulation and Policies

  • Interpret government regulations and internal policies

Qualifications

Work Experience

  • Minimum of 4 years' prior work experience in insurance or related field

Education

  • Undergraduate university degree in Actuarial Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematics or other related field of study
  • Pursuing FCAS and have credit for the following from the CAS Syllabus of Education:
    • Preliminary Actuarial Exams & VEE Credits
    • Online Courses (Modules) 1 and 2
    • Minimum of three (3) Associateship/Fellowship Exams

Skills

Problem solving

  • Ability to apply knowledge of actuarial science, mathematics, probability, statistics, principles of finance and business to problems in insurance

Computer proficiency

  • Ability to translate problem solving methods and ideas to various computer languages efficiently and effectively
  • Understanding of database systems and how to interpret/extract data from those systems
  • Familiarity with Emblem and Radar an asset

Communication

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Organization

  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments in a timely manner
  • Adapt to change effectively and perform under pressure

  • Ability to understand the context of an issue and its impact on all areas of the organization
