Job Overview

The Senior Accountant, Investments-Term is responsible for preparing financial, regulatory, and budgetary reporting for the investments of The Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company.  

 

Note: Term is expected to be 12 months in length

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepares the annual investment budget and required monthly and quarterly variance analysis.
  • Prepares monthly and quarterly journal entries and reconciliations required for investment consolidation and hedge accounting.
  • Assists the preparation of monthly and quarterly journal entries and reconciliations required for investment accounting of The Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company.
  • Prepares external investment financial reporting including:
    • Quarterly and annual investment and financial risk financial statement notes
    • Investment regulatory capital reporting
    • Investment reporting to rating agencies
    • Investment tax reporting
  • Prepares internal investment financial reporting.
  • Assists the fixed income investment back office function as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree and professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent).
  • Completion of one or more levels of the CFA Charter or interest in pursuing the CFA charter are assets.
  • Takes clear ownership and becomes an expert in a certain subject area or areas, educating others in areas he/she is especially knowledgeable.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver quality work within tight timelines.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Excel.
  • Effective team player.
  • Experience with investment accounting or investment operations are assets.
  • Previous experience in a financial reporting, investment accounting, hedge accounting, investment operations, knowledge of IFRS 9, are assets.
