Job Overview

This newly created Retention Specialist job opportunity is in support of implementing change to a significant group insurance product within a critical distribution channel.  This role will support the external brokers and clients while working with our Underwriters and Product Specialists.  Knowledge of the unique interplay between group insurance underwriting, broker support and client management is critical to attain expected retention targets.  You will assume a senior role on Wawanesa Life’s Marketing Team in the promotion of Wawanesa Life as a provider in the marketplace.
 
Job Responsibilities

  • Execute on Retention plan in support of the Product Specialists and Group Underwriting
  • Manage client relationships and provide broker support in the renewal of existing group insurance policies
  • Build and Maintain Plan Advisor relationships as necessary
  • Collaborate with the Business Development Regional Manager in support of this distribution channel
  • Provide feedback on market activity in assigned region Manage Activities within expense budget allocated
  • Renewal Activity
    • Review, Deliver/forward, follow-up and where necessary negotiate on renewals issued to Plan Advisors
    • Assist Plan Advisor in presentation of renewal to client where necessary and possible
  • Work with Executive Office team where necessary to aid in the development of new product opportunities based on market trends and Plan Advisor feedback.
  • Maintain working knowledge of product offerings, contracts, and administrative policies and practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 5 to 7 years of proven sales and service experience with emphasis on initiating contact, presenting and relationship building.
  • Knowledge of Group and/or Individual Insurance, group and/or individual pricing and small business benefits market would be an asset
  • University Degree in Business Administration and/or having obtained CEBS Designation.
  • GBA designation (under CEBS program) required within 2 years of hire.
  • Drivers License is required, and, must have own vehicle available on a daily basis
  • Must possess Life/Accident & Sickness License and E&O Insurance
  • Travel as necessary within the region as outlined in the Business Plan.  Includes travel to Executive office in Winnipeg when required.  (Can include overnight travel)
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong team player with the ability to work cooperatively and constructively with marketing assistants, other regional group managers and all necessary Executive Office Personnel to achieve the Operations service levels and benchmarks/targets
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and listening) and the ability to communicate with all levels of authority
  • Effective decision making and problem solving skills
  • Commitment to personal development by keeping current with changes in the industry, reading professional publications and maintaining professional network contacts
  • Ability to manage and measure self
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to negotiate balanced solutions for the Company and client within areas of authority
