Job Overview

The Information Security Analyst is responsible for maintaining the security and integrity of data and must have knowledge of different aspect of information security within the company. The Security Analyst is responsible for the development and oversight of security requirements involved in incident response and threat management modification and ongoing support of existing objectives and initiatives. The Security Analyst must work with business partners as well as IS professionals in implementing security controls across the organization. 

 

This position will focus on incident and threat management and providing analysis and reporting services in support of businesses/groups. Overall, build relationships and liaises with stakeholders to understand problems and opportunities for improvement for alignment with Wawanesa's business objectives. 
 
Job Responsibilities:

  • Works with the information security team to develop strategies and plans to enforce security requirements and address identified risks.
  • Detecting and assessing threats and incidents and determining their impact to Wawanesa's business operations, employees, or facilities
  • Conduct multi-step breach and investigative analysis to trace the dynamic activities associated with advanced threats
  • Perform investigation and escalation for complex or high severity security threats or incidents
  • Serve as an escalation resource and mentor for other analysts
  • Work with MSSP and other security partners for developing and refining SIEM correlation rules
  • Work on complex tasks assigned by leadership, which may involve coordination of effort among different analysts
  • Coordinate evidence/data gathering and documentation and review Security Incident reports
  • Assist in defining and driving strategic initiatives
  • Create and develop SOC processes and procedures working with different levels of analysts
  • Provide recommendations for improvements to Wawanesa’s Security Policy, Procedures, and Architecture based on operational insights
  • Define and assist in creation of operational and executive reports
  • Define tool requirements to improve SOC capabilities
  • Maintain up-to-date procedure documentation for incident and threat management
  • Initiates, facilitates, and promotes activities to create information security awareness within the organization.
  • Proactively identify and assist with implementation of products and tools to ensure security of our infrastructure and applications, collaborating with all areas of IS to harden our environment.
  • Interact with all levels within the organization to ensure activities are understood and completed appropriately.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Security / Assurance, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline from an accredited University or College or a combination of experience and education.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Information Technology with at least 3 years of experience in a Security Analyst role in security operations.
  • Knowledge and experience in using ISO 27000, NIST, and other applicable security frameworks
  • Experience with one or more of the following:
    • Familiarity with network-based services, client/server applications, mobile applications, enterprise systems and infrastructure, network architecture, and security infrastructure.
    • Familiarity with Data Loss Prevention (DLP) technologies and processes
    • Understanding of firewalls, proxies, SIEM, antivirus and IDPS concepts.
    • Understanding of security controls, such as encryption, identity and access management, and vulnerability scanning.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, and effectively manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to build and maintain high credibility with all business partners.
  • Strong verbal, written communications, and task management skills.
  • Ability to document and explain technical concepts and details clearly and concisely to a variety of audiences (e.g., technical, business, auditors, etc.).
  • Strong analytical and problem resolution skills with the ability to react quickly.
  • Proven self-starter and willing to accept additional responsibilities as position expands.
  • Project management knowledge and experience considered an asset.
  • Relevant industry certifications such as GSNA, GPEN, CEH, GCIH, GSEC, and GCFA will be considered an asset.  CISSP certification is considered a strong asset
  • Experience with security incident response, penetration testing, and computer forensics considered an asset.
