Job Overview


The Director, Pricing Excellence contributes to Wawanesa’s success by directing, planning, and implementing strategies and initiatives that advance the accuracy of projected costs, deliver tailored insights from the Pricing team to all stakeholders, and creates national pricing models and capabilities for the Canadian P&C operation.


Job Responsibilities


•    Promote and prioritize research and development initiatives that increase the accuracy of projected costs with a focus on practical benefits realization and measurement
•    Champion the development of measures, reporting, and insights which are tailored to the needs of all stakeholders, including: senior management, brokers, regulators, other actuarial functions, and the Pricing team
•    Actively promote and support data stewardship across Pricing and for specific Data Domains across the enterprise
•    Oversee the development of national pricing models for personal insurance, commercial insurance, and when applicable all P&C products
•    Oversee and enhance governance policies, practices, and procedures for Canadian P&C Pricing
•    Direct the development of external benchmarking of pricing trends and work products
•    Collaborate with all members of the Pricing Leadership team, ensuring that all Pricing Excellence work products are focused on value creation and are ready for implementation upon completion
•    Champion initiatives and be receptive to both employee resistance and acceptance, so that genuine understanding and commitment can occur.
•    Stay abreast of industry, regulatory and company changes or trends as they relate to the insurance industry in general and actuarial pricing in particular.
•    Oversee and coach a team to ensure the work environment is respectful, challenging and rewarding and employees are maximized to their full potential while contributing to the achievement of Wawanesa's goals.
•    Develop and enhance productive business relationships by liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
•    Perform other duties as assigned



•    Minimum of ten years Property and Casualty industry experience with three years in a leadership role.
•    Undergraduate university degree in Actuarial Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematics, or other related field of study.
•    ACAS designation required but Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society strongly preferred
•    Subject matter expert on current insurance pricing techniques with ability to mentor others
•    Strong MS Office skills
•    Excellent leadership skills with the ability to influence and gain respect, credibility and confidence from others.
•    Ability to make excellent and well justified decisions in complex and high pressure situations.
•    Strong negotiation skills with the ability to present information or arguments in a convincing manner.
•    Ability to develop and implement comprehensive plans and solutions that bridge complex issues that span across time.
•    Strong business acumen with excellent analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to recognize and identify critical issues.
•    Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills with the ability to effectively convey ideas in a persuasive and eloquent manner.
•    CIP or equivalent Property and Casualty industry designation considered an asset
•    Ability and willingness to travel.
