Job Overview

The Claims Operations Control Analyst role is a key support for Wawanesa’s Strategic Pillar- Operating Fundamentals focusing on advancing the effectiveness of our insurance operations.  This role will support the creation and design of key controls for the Claims Operations designed to meet compliance objectives, mitigate risk, and proactively manage and report on contingency resolutions.  This role will have key accountability to test and report on operational controls to be reviewed through the second line of defense structure and will participate in special projects as assigned.


Job Description

  • Tests and reports adherence to day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to claims operational, compliance, and conduct risk.
  • Provides analysis of governance and control mechanisms to ensure obligations are met
  • Reviews and recommends controls and safeguards that contribute to the development of Claims operational policies and/or procedures
  • Works with Claims partners to determine evidence to ensure outstanding audit and regulatory findings are proactively managed, action-planned, and appropriate on-going oversight is in place delivering improved outcomes
  • Reports and escalates the status of relevant risks and controls as appropriate
  • Maintains appropriate records of internal controls, to ensure they are sufficiently well designed for testing and are operating effectively to mitigate operational risks.
  • Supports review of compliance and audit data, insights, and metrics to ensure operational issues or opportunities are appropriately identified. 
  • Contributes to special projects as assigned
  • Performs other duties as assigned


  • 3-5 years experience of Claims Adjusting/Examining
  • Internal Audit, Regulatory, Compliance or Risk background or experience dealing with regulatory, audit and compliance issues for Claims
  • Knowledge of coverage wordings, policy interpretation, case law, legislation, and insurance regulations
  • Strong business acumen with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to recognize and identify critical issues. 
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate at the right level for the audience and present information or arguments in a convincing manner using MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel etc) 
  • Excellent collaboration skills, with the ability to ensure group objectives are met
  • Effective organization skills and a demonstrated ability to deliver results in a fast-paced dynamic environment while working independently 
  • General understanding of Three Lines of Defense in Effective Risk Management and Control
  • Insurance experience 3+ years with solid understanding and experience in P&C Claims Operations
  • Completion of the CRM, CIP or FCIP designation is an asset
  • Bilingual in English and French is an asset
