Job Overview

 

The Business Intelligence Analyst is responsible for coordinating complex concepts across Wawanesa’s operating companies to deliver meaningful insights. They leverage their extensive business and technical knowledge to create models that use assumptions from all departments. The Business Intelligence Analyst understands overlapping and competing assumptions and can quantify business impacts of different functions, layering in assumptions for reasonable modelling and forecasting. As a participant in regular business meetings, they are able to identify how changing business practices impact financial models and is able to provide high level estimates for financial impacts as well as work effort in modifying, rebuilding, or creating new, models.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Consult with departments across the organization to collect modelling assumptions
  • Perform scenario/sensitivity testing of future results
  • Quantify proactively business risks that can and cannot be controlled by management action
  • Create, maintain, and monitor financial models designed to measure operational performance on a medium to long term horizon
  • Measure trends and forecasts long term outcomes based on quantitative and qualitative findings
  • Develop report prototypes and present reports that are intuitive, meaningful, and purpose built
  • Prepare, validate, and reconcile data from internal and external sources
  • Monitor the accuracy of forecasts and leverage insights from their academic domain to determine the primary drivers of business results
  • Monitor business performance and recommend analysis
  • Develop, edit, finalize and enhance reports, presentations, and other documents as requested, including proofreading and providing format and content review.
  • Develop new database facts and dimensions as required leveraging understanding of database architecture and business operations
  • Present analysis and recommendation to team members and manager.
  • Analyze processes and research best practices to ensure process consistency, identifying and recommending areas for improvement with a basic understanding of their impact on the organization
  • Write and maintain documentation for internal purposes as well as for the customer
  • Integrate unique business understanding to support business strategy
  • Enhance understanding of all departments
  • Mentor and train other team members or Wawanesa employees
  • Perform other duties as assigned
     

Qualifications

 

  • Post-secondary degree or a commensurate amount of experience in at least one related field of study (including accounting, financial analysis, statistics & math, economics, insurance) and at least 2 years’ experience in a management reporting function
  • Expert knowledge of SQL, SAS, VBA, R or Python
  • Advanced MS Office skills; inclusive of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, Visio and Adobe Acrobat
  • Advanced knowledge of BI tools such as MicroStrategy, Tableau, SAS EG, Qlik or other BI Reporting tools
  • Excellent data modeling skills
  • Advanced communication, influence and presentation skills
  • Advanced ability to learn new concepts quickly and understand how business decisions impact the broader organization
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Advanced data analysis, modelling, reconciliation and organization
