Job Overview

Working under general supervision, we are seeking an intermediate to Senior Application Developer (II or Senior) who will contribute to Wawanesa success by building, maintaining, and supporting business systems and applications. This role will primarily be responsible for supporting the operations and vitality of our Business Intelligence environment (primarily MicroStrategy Reporting) offered by the Data Management team, encompassing both software maintenance, development assignments, and more.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and test software and processes in our BI Reporting environment.
  • Prepare technical specifications from business requirements
  • Maintain the operation of business systems and applications.
  • Collaborating with multiple departments, diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve incidents supporting Data Management applications.
  • Provide support for monthly server/application patches, application, and infrastructure upgrades
  • Deployment of MicroStrategy Code packages to Production environments.
  • Participate in code reviews and release planning activities.
  • Estimate and track progress of assigned work.
  • Create and update relevant documentation.
  • Follow established practices, processes, and guidelines.
  • Keep current with relevant technologies.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Post-secondary degree or diploma in software development or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years practical experience performing a Business Intelligence, data warehouse and/or reporting development role building software using current programming languages/techniques, working with Linux, relational database systems and structured query languages (Intermediate SQL query skills required).
  • 2+ years of experience working with MicroStrategy as a report developer or administrator.
  • Knowledge of Data Warehousing concepts (with a focus on Kimball Based Data Models), relational database concepts
  • Detail oriented with analytical and problem-solving skills to recognize and identify issues and take proper action to resolve them.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner with style fitting for the audience and message.
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively in a team environment by making quality contributions and supporting fellow team members.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to self-manage a fluctuating workload, with various situations and changing priorities.
  • Possesses a willingness to learn while keeping abreast of developments in field with the ability to apply learning to new situations.
  • Ability to deal well with ambiguity, deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience using software development tools, such as JIRA, Confluence and Source Code Management is considered an asset.
  • Experience with Power BI Reporting tool would be considered a strong asset.
  • Experience with other Business Intelligence tools such as Tableau, Cognos, Amazon QuickSight, or related would be considered an asset. 
  • Certifications in relevant technology is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience in the Insurance industry and Guidewire Insurance Suite is considered an asset.
  • Linux scripting skills and Tomcat administration considered an asset
  • AWS experience and familiarity with Redshift and/or PostgreSQL databases considered a strong asset.
  • Previous experience working within a BI Production Support environment would be considered a strong asset.
