Salary: At Wawanesa, salary is only one component of a holistic, comprehensive and competitive offering that we provide to our employees. The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. The salary offered is estimated to be within the following range: $95,000 - $105,000. Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are still encouraged to apply.

Job Overview
The Sustainability Specialist will be a key contributor to developing and implementing Wawanesa’s sustainability initiatives. The Sustainability Specialist will contribute to numerous sustainability activities such as climate change mitigation and adaptation, sustainability reporting, stakeholder engagement and partnership development, reducing resource consumption, waste diversion, sustainable transportation, responsible investments, sustainable product and services, and environmental management.
Job Responsibilities
- Contributes to the development and implementation of sustainability related standards, programs, and initiatives, including conducting research & analysis, and creating summaries & recommendations.
- Coordinates with internal and external stakeholders to gather and analyze qualitative and quantitative sustainability related data (i.e., resource consumption, procurement, travel, waste, investments, products etc.).
- Contributes to creating sustainability related reports and aids in communicating this sustainability related data internally and externally.
- Conducts continuous monitoring of sustainability trends, standards, frameworks, regulations, and industry best practices to contribute to Wawanesa’s sustainability strategy.
- Acts as an internal advocate to provide encouragement and support to various internal teams on sustainability and climate change related initiatives.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience working on organization-wide sustainability initiatives, preferably in insurance or financial services sector, and/or in a large, complex, national, or multinational organization.
- Undergraduate or master’s degree in business, sustainability, environmental studies or science, engineering, or related field.
- Strong research, analytical skills, and attention to detail with the ability to review and summarize large amounts of complex information.
- Strong interpersonal, presentation and communication skills with the ability to effectively convey ideas.
- Ability to deal with some ambiguity and conceptual ideas, creative thinker.
- Strong stakeholder management skills.
- Team-oriented, collaborative and flexible.
- Advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint.
- Completion of CIP designation considered an asset.
- Ability and willingness to travel in Canada and the United States.
