The salary offered is estimated to be within the following range: $80,000 - $90,000 Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are still encouraged to apply.

Job Overview

The Supervisor, Payables provides leadership to the Accounts Payable Team ensuring all Company payments are made in an accurate, timely and professional manner. Responsible for enforcing Company payment policies and procedures as well as ensuring that the accounts payable system is effectively managed. The incumbent will be a team player who builds relationships with related departments and works collaboratively on solutions that are streamlined while also being responsible to key controls that mitigate risk for the organization.  

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Oversees and coaches a team to ensure the work environment is respectful, challenging and rewarding and employees are maximized to full potential while contributing to the achievement of Wawanesa’s goals 
  • Be familiar with industry best practices for an Accounts Payable Department and apply this knowledge to optimize processes within the department 
  • Identifies business needs and champions initiatives and is receptive to both employee resistance and acceptance, so the genuine understanding and commitment can occur  
  • Conducts and contributes to employee’s performance management ensuring regular feedback is provided on quality of work and overall performance 
  • Be forward thinking to identify new processes, technologies and implement efficiencies gains to advance modernization 
  • Ensures invoices are accurately accounted for and paid according to applicable terms 
  • Provides professional service to branch and corporate offices 
  • Acts as a main point of contact with vendors and employees regarding invoices and payments 
  • Ensures the Accounts Payable system is reconciled to the general ledger 
  • Assists with monthly, quarterly, and year-end accounting activities as required 
  • Performs other duties as assigned 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a senior role in accounts payable or a related field, 3 years of leadership experience and a proven track record of driving change to gain efficiencies  
  • ​Excellent leadership skills with the ability to influence and gain respect, credibility, and confidence from others. Proven ability to motivate and engage teams while managing change with a continuous improvement leadership focus. 
  • ​Well-developed organizational, problem solving and time management skills, with the ability to deal with fluctuation work volumes 
  • ​Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) with the ability to effectively convey ideas in a persuasive and eloquent manner  
  • ​Demonstrated ability to analyze large amounts of information and data, and present analysis to others 
  • ​Completion of post-secondary education, Specialization in Accounting/Finance would be an asset 
  • ​Proficiency with PeopleSoft, and particular with PeopleSoft Accounts Payable module would be an asset
  • Proficiency with Chrome River or similar employee travel and expense management software would be an asset 
  • ​Proficiency with invoice approval workflow software would be an asset 
  • ​Strong proficiency with MS Office suite of tools, and especially MS Excel​ 
  • Bilingual, French and English is an asset.
