This role is considered a head-office role and will be required to communicate with internal and external stakeholders across Canada where the primary business language for this role is English.  As such, the successful candidate must be fully proficient in English.

 

Salary: At Wawanesa, salary is only one component of a holistic, comprehensive and competitive offering that we provide to our employees. The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. Job Overview

This role is responsible for the execution and day‑to‑day delivery of website content and content management system (CMS) operations in alignment with established website strategy, governance, and priorities. The Senior Specialist ensures content is accurate, accessible, and on‑brand by managing publishing workflows, applying standards, and executing optimization initiatives. The specialist partners closely with the Web Strategist, Marketing, UX, Analytics, and Technology teams to keep the website current, reliable, and effective. 

 

Job Responsibilities 

  • ​​Execute day‑to‑day website publishing and CMS work aligned to the established roadmap and priorities, managing workload based on defined urgency, impact, risk, and available capacity. This includes publishing, updating, and maintaining web pages, landing pages, PDFs, campaign materials, and embedded multimedia. 
  • ​Serve as the operational owner of CMS standards, templates, metadata conventions, and publishing practices, ensuring all web content adheres to brand standards, accessibility guidelines, SEO best practices, and legal requirements.  
  • ​Own the ongoing health of all website content by ensuring its accuracy, freshness, accessibility compliance, SEO hygiene, and structural integrity. 
  • ​Execute approved, repeatable website optimizations, including metadata improvements, content structure enhancements, accessibility fixes, and on‑page SEO best practices.  
  • ​Maintain and execute a structured web content lifecycle, providing content owners with clear guidelines and reporting to ensure content remains accurate, current, and aligned with governance expectations. 
  • ​Optimize imagery, page structure, and content layouts for performance and user experience. 
  • ​Administer publishing workflows, versioning, and content approvals. 
  • ​Conduct QA reviews to ensure content accuracy, formatting consistency, and functionality. 
  • ​Coordinate with UX, development, and analytics partners to support site updates and enhancements. 
  • ​Act as the day‑to‑day CMS and web content subject matter expert for Marketing and cross‑functional partners. 
  • ​Monitor website health and escalate to technical teams as needed.  
  • ​Develop and maintain enablement materials (submission standards, FAQs, how‑to guides) to improve request quality and reduce friction. 
  • ​Support cross-functional stakeholders across Marketing, Brand, Communications, HR, and Product teams. 
  • ​Build trust as a reliable, empowered partner for website execution decisions.​ 

Qualifications

  • University degree or college diploma in digital marketing, web development, or a related field.  
  • 5 – 7 years’ experience in digital marketing, web production, digital content production. 
  • Hands on experience working directly inside Content Management Systems (CMS). Experience with dotCMS is a plus. 
  • Experience supporting AI-ready content systems and structured content environments. 
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of content governance principles, with the ability to apply standards consistently across web content, workflows, and CMS publishing practices.  
  • Strong understanding of web standards, accessibility requirements (WCAG), and SEO best practices, and proven ability to apply them in day‑to‑day content execution and quality assurance.  
  • Proficient in basic markup languages (HTML) and cascading style sheets (CSS), with the ability to review, edit, and troubleshoot content presentation, formatting, and structural issues within the CMS. 
  • Strong attention to detail and quality control. 
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.  
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to reprioritize quickly.  
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. 
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with Marketing, IS and UX teams. 
  • Effective communication skills.
