The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. The salary offered is estimated to be within the following range: $85,000 - $110,000. Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are still encouraged to apply.

Job Overview

The Senior Investment Analyst is responsible for contributing to the monitoring, analysis, research and reporting of Wawanesa’s investment portfolios. In addition, this role works closely with stakeholders across the company as required to facilitate quarterly investment performance, asset positioning, investment risk and sustainability reporting to the Executive team, Board, Pension Committees, regulators and external stakeholders. 

 

JOB RESPONSIBILTIES

 

  • Actively participate in investment manager monitoring including coordinating and participating in quarterly calls, and documenting key drivers of investment performance and other relevant business activity (changes in AUM, personnel, etc.)
  • Contribute to the research, analysis and implementation of strategic investment initiatives including new asset classes, new investment managers and enhanced risk metrics for the
  • Company’s insurance and pension plan (Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution) investment portfolios.
  • Communicate with investment managers as required to facilitate investment analysis and reporting.
  • Actively contribute to all quarterly reporting requirements for the Investment Committee of the Board and the Wawanesa Pension Committees. 
  • Monitor and report on actions of Wawanesa’s peers as it relates to investment portfolio performance and sustainable investment initiatives. 
  • Represent the Investment Team in internal working groups.
  • Participate in external webinars and networking events as it relates to investing.
  • Other investment analysis and related project work as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • More than 5 years of relevant professional experience ideally in the institutional investment industry as either an allocator or investment consultant with direct experience in evaluating the investment opportunity landscape, investment manager research, asset allocation and asset liability analyses, risk analyses and performance reporting. 
  • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Economics or a relevant discipline.
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation or currently enrolled in the CFA program.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and other applications (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook). Workiva and PowerBI experience is an asset. 
  • Experience with Bloomberg, eVestment, Wilshire Compass, MSCI Climate Metrics and other investment consulting software an asset.
  • Experience with Canadian Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution pension plans (investment and portfolio management perspective) is an asset.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate across the business and to gain respect, credibility and confidence from others.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to recognize and identify critical issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills with the ability to effectively convey complex ideas in a simple, persuasive and eloquent manner.  
  • Able to adapt behavior to meet the needs of a changing environment and multitask effectively.
  • A team player with demonstrated motivation and enthusiasm.
