Job Overview
Working under minimal supervision, the Senior Disability Management Specialist will manage extended absence and accommodation processes while providing consultation to ensure effective utilization of the associated programs, policies and procedures, inclusive of enterprise wide wellness initiatives. This position will handle sensitive and complex processes, and work closely with subject matter experts and HR Representatives, as appropriate, and follow established procedures to provide a high level of customer service.
Job Responsibilities
- Administer and manage all aspects of the sick leave/extended absence programs for Canada inclusive of claim submission review, claim initiation, ensuring effective case management by all involved parties, accommodations and maintaining appropriate contact with employees, and HR Representatives.
- Provide support for the programs through the interpretation and understanding of all internal and external policies and procedures related to leave of absence and disability management.
- Establish effective return to work and accommodation strategies in a proactive and educational manner.
- Support and help drive all enterprise wide wellness initiatives.
- Guide ergonomic assessments when issues are identified.
- Track absence related data in order to produce reports, statistics and analysis to allow for proactive disability management.
- Create and maintain of all internal sick leave/disability claim and accommodation files.
- Provide administrative support for all other Health and Disability Management programs.
- Assist and Lead in the development of Disability Management Resources and Educational Tools for leaders and employees.
- Deliver presentations and training to leaders on the Disability and Wellness process
- Assist in managing relationships with external wellness programming providers
- Collaborate and foster relationships between the US and Canadian Disability Management Programs to provide enterprise wide consistency when deemed appropriate.
- Act as the first point of contact for Return to Work Specialists and external departments for questions related to DM.\Train team members in the administrative and tracking processes related to DM and Wellness.
- Ensure all programming aligns with the corporate values and strategic goals.
- Assist in managing the relationship between Disability Management and the Case Management team.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Disability Management or Human Resources, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5-10 years experience in a Disability Management position.
- Experience in Corporate Wellness is considered an asset.
- Advanced knowledge and demonstrated ability in the application of insurance contracts and policy wordings is required.
- 3 years’ experience in a Human Resources generalist position, including exposure to leave of absence programs and a strong background in performance management
- Strong knowledge of Canadian employment laws and Human Rights Legislation
- Advanced MS Office skills, specifically in Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
- Sound judgment and discretion in handling confidential material
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to review work products for accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent initiative, with a proactive, positive, self-starting attitude, and ability to educate others.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, combined with the ability to be compassionate, understanding when dealing with employees during challenging situations.
- Return to Work Coordinator (RTWC) or Disability Management Professional (DMP) Designations would be considered an asset.
