Work Environment: We offer a hybrid work environment that offers flexibility to our employees in balancing in-office (2 days per week OR 15 hours per week in a Wawanesa office) and remote work. You may work from any of the following locations: Winnipeg, MB; Wawanesa, MB. 

 

Working Business LanguageEnglish. This role is considered a head-office role and will be required to communicate with internal stakeholders across Canada where the primary business language for this role is English. 

 

Salary: At Wawanesa, salary is only one component of a holistic, comprehensive and competitive offering that we provide to our employees. The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. The salary offered is estimated to be within the following range: $110,000 - $130,000.  Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are still encouraged to apply.

Job Overview

The Business Development Manager will lead and manage the business development team and process to; ensure mutual satisfaction and success between Wawanesa and brokerage network, develop staff proficiency, establish and achieve targeted business goals with contracted brokers and team members, and develop opportunities to grow the business with new brokerages and territories within the region, all which reflect Wawanesa’s strategies.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide management, direction, and development to the region business development team which includes; establishing and managing production results, assist in setting and achieving growth and marketing plans based on individual brokerage plans and regional goals, and assessing contracted brokers benefit or risk to regional goals.
  • Develop, lead, and monitor marketing campaigns and business development initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities and assist in the review of non-contracted brokerages and territories to achieve growth and production plans.
  • Maintain an exceptional understanding and knowledge of the changing marketplace, products, brokerages, and competitors.
  • Work effectively with the region’s functional departments and management teams to achieve plans and goals, which includes; leading marketing product launches, training sessions, facilitating meetings with Wawanesa and brokerage staff, implementing underwriting plans.
  • Provide recommendations and expertise in the creation and implementation of business development strategies and marketing campaigns.
  • Act as an escalation point between Wawanesa and brokers to ensure flow of communication and assist in solving any company/brokerage concerns.
  • Liaise and coordinate efforts with executive Business Development department and Insurance Solutions department as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • P&C insurance experience is a strong asset, along with 10+ years of insurance experience in sales, business development, or wholesale distribution roles within relationship driven, target based environments focused on market expansion and revenue growth.
  • Post‑secondary education in Business, Marketing, Communications, or a related field. CIP or CRM designation is an asset; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office. Experience using and maintaining account information in CRM tools such as Salesforce is required.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and engage team members.
  • Excellent planning and organizing skills involving goal setting and results measurement, with the ability to develop effective plans that define activities, resources and timelines.
  • Excellent presentation and training skills with the ability to effectively facilitate sessions and deliver powerful presentations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to express ideas clearly and ensure understanding.
  • Excellent team player who facilitates high morale by encouraging others to be excited, motivated, and enthusiastic.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to identify relationships, problems and issues.
  • Understanding and exposure to product development, pricing, and implementation would be considered an asset.
  • Willingness and ability to travel.
