Job Overview
Working under minimal supervision, this job contributes to Wawanesa’s success by providing instruction and program design expertise in the development and implementation of comprehensive training programs using a blend of learning methodologies in support of Wawanesa’s strategic initiatives and enterprise wide training programs.
Job Responsibilities
- Create engaging learning activities and compelling course curriculum and content that enhances retention and transfer of learning – source and use photographs, tutorials, online videos, drawings, diagrams, animation, anc charts that increase learners’ understanding as required.
- Execute on end to end planning, design, and development of training deliverables including classroom, eLearning and supporting resource materials (e.g. training curriculum, webianrs, eLearning, classroom exercises, presentations, demos, how-to videos, job aids, etc.).
- Conduct interviews / learning needs assessments to identify knowledge and skills gaps, and relevant training requirements..
- Design and develop training programs that establish learning objectives, creates knowledge and builds skills using appropriate learning methods (e.g. checks in/assessments, simulations, scenario-based questions, mentoring, on the job learning).
- Assess, determine and propose appropriate learning methods and deliverables, including eLearning, Instructor Lead (ILT) or Virtual Lead Training (VLT).
- Design and develop new, or modify existing instructional materials to support learning needs and training requirements.
- Work collaboratively with subject matter experts (SMEs) to assess stakeholder learning needs and develop appropriate curriculum to meet learning requirements.
- Collaborate proactively with project team members and other internal/external stakeholders to design and implement effective learning solutions.
- Provide train-the-trainer sessions for internal subject matter experts (SMEs).
- Develop and implement an effective evaluation process for all training programs to ensure follow up with participants and that training requirements are met.
- Incorporate technology and adult learning theory to increase offerings of training solutions (audio, video, interactions, simulations, role plays, games, etc).
- Maintain all eLearning, ILT, VLT courses for relevance, update as needed and maintain versioning.
- Coordinate training / learning events as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Three to five years’ experience developing, planning and implementing training programs, with at least two years in an eLearning environment.
- Completion of post-secondary degree/certificate or equivalent experience.
- Proven working experience in instructional design and with instructional technology (Ex. Captivate).
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to conduct detailed analysis of information, and to select and implement best solutions.
- Strong technical writing skills and overall writing abilities.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate at the right level for the intended audience.
- Excellent planning and organizing skills, with the proven ability to prioritize, handle multiple assignments, work accurately within tight timelines and interact collaboratively in a team environment.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to develop relevant information and potential impacts.
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new situations and circumstances.
- Ability to deal well with ambiguity and fast-paced change.
- Previous experience on corporate strategic initiatives or large complex projects is considered an asset.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Certificate in Adult Education (CAE, CACE) is considered an asset.
- Knowledge and experience in the insurance industry is considered an asset.
