Job Overview

The Senior Accounting Assistant is responsible for the accounts payable function and the review and verification of bank transactions. The Senior Accounting Assistant reconciles and balances general ledger accounts, and assists with internal and external financial reporting.

 

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the accounts payable function, including preparation and entry of cheque requisitions, recording of intercompany transactions and other journal entries to the general ledger
  • Perform daily review and verification of bank transactions
  • Submission of daily electronic transaction files and set-up of one-off electronic payments and deposits
  • Balancing of daily and weekly commission payments, assisting with follow-up and adjustments as required
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and balancing of general ledger suspense accounts
  • Assist Supervisor with Fleet Management reporting
  • Assist with quarter-end and year-end financial reporting as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum one year accounting experience
  • Completed post-secondary education (college or university; years of experience may substitute for education)
  • Demonstrates a willingness to learn and apply new skills to complete assigned tasks
  • Demonstrates attention to detail by reviewing own work
  • Effective team player with the ability to work independently
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office software; specifically Excel
  • Experience in the use of Accounting software
  • Attentive listener, with effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Multi-tasks effectively
  • Strong organizational skills
