Job Overview

The Supervisor, Casualty Claims contributes to Wawanesa’s goal of delivering an exceptional and consistent claims service experience by providing leadership to the Casualty claims team, focusing on the achievement of key departmental, regional and corporate key business goals and customer service standards. 

 

This role is integral to building a future that will enhance our customer journey and deliver the outcomes that matter to our customers.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and technical guidance to the Casualty Claims team
  • Coordinate and supervise daily activities of the Casualty Claims team
  • Provide exceptional customer service to our customers, brokers and preferred partners
  • Manage team performance by overseeing indemnity and expense payments, monitor work flow and set priorities to ensure maximum efficiency and productivity as guided by corporate policies, procedures and business plans
  • Conduct or contribute to employee development, and employee performance management through coaching and following up on the development of the team’s technical competencies
  • Conduct consistent review of Casualty claims files and coach team to strive for continuous improvement and development by setting and tracking individual and team performance objectives
  • Provide direction and leadership in areas such as: policy interpretation, coverage investigation, liability determination, investigation, establishing reserves and settlement negotiations
  • Remain up-to-date with legislative changes and trends in the insurance industry and apply to claims handling/defense strategies
  • Contribute to overall Claims strategy initiatives and implementation
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive Casualty claims handling experience, in Auto Bodily Injury Liability Claims
  • Experience in handling Commercial General Liability claims and Personal Liability claims is an asset
  • 1+ years of Claims leadership experience
  • College /University degree preferred
  • Obtained or working toward Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) Designation and a desire to continue relevant industry education (FCIP, CRM, etc.)
  • Ability to successfully coach, guide, and positively motivate employees
  • Excellent teamwork skills, with the ability to ensure group objectives are met
  • Excellent customer service skills including patience, empathy and concern for our customers along with the ability to understand customer needs while meeting established quality service standards
  • Expert knowledge of coverage wordings, policy interpretation, case law, legislation, and insurance regulations
  • Expert investigative, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct detailed analysis of information, and to select and implement best solutions in a timely manner
  • Excellent knowledge of medical and legal terminology
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Highly proficient time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work in a fast paced and continuous improvement environment
  • Detail oriented with a critical degree of accuracy regarding data interpretation and efficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Exposure to the Guidewire Insurance Suite Products is an asset
