Job Overview

 

Wawanesa has an exciting opportunity as we are currently recruiting for a Manager, Strategy to join our growing team. 

 

In this role, you will contribute to Wawanesa’s success by participating in the organization’s strategy practices at an enterprise-wide scale. In this role, you will assist in developing strategies that support enterprise and Line of Business objectives, reinforced by strategic research focused on customer-driven experiences, understanding market opportunities and leveraging competitive insights.  

 

The ideal candidate has a consulting background and has worked in the development of strategic research activities including, competitive analysis, industry trend analysis, strategic financial and scenario analysis, and preparation of strategic insights to Senior Leadership.

 

Job Responsibilities


•    Assist the development of strategic research insights to understand market opportunities and to help identify, prioritize and resolve enterprise strategic and organizational issues 
•    Provide competitive intelligence and strategic analysis on high value issues for the ELT and the Board to help drive strategies that support improved customer experience, revenue growth, and strengthened competitive advantage
•    Monitor and report regularly on industry, regulatory and company changes or strategic trends as they relate to the insurance industry, including industry benchmarking 
•    Assist in the enterprise’s strategic planning process for the Executive Leadership Team
•    Assist enterprise and Line of Business teams by providing supporting insights to help develop / refine their strategies
•    Contribute to the curation and insight gathering about emerging industry products and platforms that serve to improve Wawanesa’s competitiveness 
•    As needed, participate in strategic projects / initiatives and serve as a thought partner to the organization
•    Perform other duties as assigned 

Qualifications


 

•    Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience developing strategies, including experience working for a management/strategy consulting firm in a team management role; experience in Insurance (P+C or Life) would be an asset
•    Post-secondary degree in Business or equivalent experience
•    Advanced business acumen, broad and analytical thinking, with demonstrated ability to balance strategic and financial implications with new trends and innovations 
•    Strong research and analysis skills; ability to frame key analyses required to address critical business issues
•    Strong interpersonal, presentation and communication skills with the ability to effectively convey ideas in a persuasive and eloquent manner 
•    Ability to deal with ambiguity and conceptual ideas; creative and lateral thinker
•    Team-oriented, collaborative and flexible
•    Advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint
•    Ability with MSA Research considered an asset
•    Completion of CIP designation considered an asset
•    Ability and willingness to travel in Canada and the United States
