Job Overview

Under general direction and supervision of the Vice President Commercial Insurance, the Senior Data Analytics Specialist-Commercial Insurance works with the VP, Directors and Managers as a shared resource to lead and coordinate all data and analytics work in Commercial Insurance (CI).


This includes creating data and analytics roadmaps, data mining, along with standardized and adhoc report design and communication to relevant stakeholders.  The role will design, develop and implement analytic reporting solutions that contribute to the Commercial Insurance Strategic Imperatives, and ensure CI Leadership has the information they need to effectively manage the Commercial Portfolio(s).  


Job Responsibilities

  • Leads all executive reporting and data analytics initiatives for Commercial Insurance, including the creation of standardized and ad hoc reports that will support the leadership team in managing the portfolio.
  • Creates, maintains and distributes monthly/quarterly/ad hoc reports and presentations on financial performance and portfolio analysis on behalf of commercial insurance.
  • Acts as the data liaison for commercial Insurance and works in partnership with other business units including Commercial Pricing, Business Transformation, Personal Insurance, Data & Analytics, Regional Teams and Business Development to deliver the data needs to manage the Commercial Business.
  • Supports the Product Directors in obtaining data that will help drive decisions around business impact and prioritization of rate and product changes to ensure alignment with Product ambitions and financial targets.
  • Identifies data analysis opportunities, designs and executes queries, extracts and manipulates data for subsequent review and analysis on behalf of the CI Leadership team
  • Performs complex quality review procedures including identifying and defining issues, developing criteria, reviewing and analyzing evidence, and documenting processes and procedures.
  • Assumes a leadership role in enhancing the department’s data analytic capabilities by training other members of the department in performing basic data analysis techniques, and using JIRA, MicroStrategy etc. in the management of portfolio.
  • Leads special reviews of various areas on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Pursues professional development opportunities and professional association memberships.
  • Represents Underwriting Excellence on project teams and at management meetings.


  • Minimum 5 years P&C insurance industry experience with a strong understanding of Commercial Insurance product, pricing and terminology.
  • Bachelor degree or other related post-secondary degree and/or CIP, CRM.
  • Advanced analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced attention to detail skills to produce high quality deliverables that accounts for all areas involved.
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to prepare clear and concise reports and communicate in a manner suitable for the audience and message. 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to meet project deadlines., 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with highly sensitive and confidential information.
  • Interest in obtaining ACDA (ACL Certified Data Analyst) designation would be considered an asset.
