Job Overview

 

Wawanesa Insurance is looking for an exceptional candidate to join our Insurance Risk Management team in either an Actuarial Analyst II or Senior Actuarial Analyst role.

 

Working under minimal supervision, the Senior Actuarial Analyst of Insurance Risk Management contributes to the accurate and timely measurement, monitoring, reporting and control of enterprise-wide insurance risks and associated escalation and governance process. 


 
Responsibilities

 

Insurance Risk Management
•    Provides oversight and challenge related to effectiveness and consistency of enterprise-wide insurance risks and actuarial practices including evaluating the design, pricing and valuation of the insurance products.


Actuarial and Statistical Methods
•    Performs independent rate indications and reserving valuations of major business lines. 
•    Supports the process buildout for the independent indication, reserving and reinsurance review.
•    Supports the review of key insurance risk models, including actuarial, budget and forecasting, and insurance risk capital models.


Efficiency and Effectiveness
•    Collaborates with other members of the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) team to continuously enhance risk management practices and achieve ERM objectives
•    Supports the development, maintenance and continual enhancement of the insurance risk measurement and reporting framework, related central data repository and reporting.


Regulation and Policies
•    Maintains the set of key risk indicators and dashboard reporting used for monitoring against management and Board-approved limits


Build Business Acumen
•    Understanding the insurance mechanism in general, as well as how it works at Wawanesa
•    Perform other duties as assigned/requested by the manager/director

Qualifications


•    Undergraduate university degree in Actuarial Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematics or other related field of study
•    Pursuing ACAS or FCAS with a minimum of 6 Associateship Exams and VEE Credits
•    Minimum of 4 years’  prior full time/co-op work experience in insurance or related field


Skills
•    Working programming knowledge of VBA and R is an asset.
•    Experience in reserving considered an asset
•    Ability to learn quickly and independently.
•    Ability to ask effective questions to elicit detailed and relevant information
•    Solution-oriented with a willingness to handle opposing views and find common ground.
•    Collaborates well in a team environment, and capable of working with high degree of autonomy.
•    Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
•    Leadership skills to successfully manage projects and mentor/coach colleagues.
