Job Overview


We are hiring a Manager, Strategic Cost Management to join our team. In this role, working under minimal supervision, you will support Wawanesa’s success, providing business intelligence and analytics to the Claims Department.


Job Responsibilities


•    Contributes to the development and management of the claim department’s business plan and expense budget.
•    Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders on strategic planning, business analysis, forecasting, budgeting and project benefit realization
•    Provides financial reporting, analysis and the identification and creation of KPIs
•    Analyses financial information, business processes and performance to help the business drive continuous improvement 
•    Collects data from multiple platforms to identify opportunities for Cost Reduction/Profitability improvement
•    Through data analysis, draws out causal relationships, risks and performance improvement opportunities
•    Stays abreast of industry, regulatory best practices and company changes or trends as they relate to this role in the insurance industry.
•    Champions initiatives and is receptive to both employee resistance and acceptance, so that genuine understanding and commitment can occur.
•    Contributes to ensuring the work environment is respectful, challenging and rewarding and employees are maximized to their full potential while contributing to the achievement of Wawanesa's goals.
•    Models leadership competencies, ability to influence others through effective presentation and communication
•    Performs other duties as assigned.



•    Minimum of 2 years’ experience in finance within the financial services sector, Insurance preferred
•    Post-secondary degree is required
•    Actuarial experience preferred
•    Strong business acumen with excellent analytical and problem solving skills
•    Managerial or supervisory experience is preferred, leading a team of financial analysts with experience in developing strategies, providing the tools to monitor and performance manage, designing related key performance indicators, and liaising with internal/external stakeholders/partners 
•    Advanced proficiency in MS Office, specifically Excel and PowerPoint
•    Ability to develop, implement comprehensive plans and solutions that bridge complex issues that span across time and multiple locations.
•    Strong interpersonal, presentation and communications skills with the ability to effectively convey ideas in a persuasive and clear manner at all levels.
•    Adaptable to a changing environment, with the ability to champion change while motivating and influencing others.
