Job Overview

 

The Director, Personal Insurance – Property is accountable for the financial results of the personal insurance property portfolio in Canada, including product management, product development, input to pricing decisions, strategy, risk management, analysis, reporting, creation and maintenance of underwriting guidelines and policy language, as well as overall portfolio analysis and premium leakage reviews.. 

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Drives the financial results of the personal property product portfolio, including all investments in strategic projects., the change and creation of insurance products 
  • Establishes and develops the strategic direction for the Company's product lines, including portfolio of products and monitoring of operational execution through premium leakage review, portfolio analysis and in collaboration with pricing
  • Supports the ongoing business transformation (and other strategic projects which span across Products & Marketing business units), and provides guidance on product, pricing, quality, and portfolio management decisions
  • Maintains an in-depth knowledge of market and product trends, the competitive environment, regulatory actions and decisions and rallies the appropriate team to formulate and implement a response where required
  • Guides resolution of claims issues in exceptional cases, in consultation with claims and executive leaders
  • Creates the rate and product change schedule, in collaboration with the Actuarial Pricing leaders, and manage the analysis and implementation of product and rate reviews to drive financial results 
  • Oversees the development, communication and maintenance of underwriting guidelines and procedures, rating rules, and product wordings
  • Ensures compliance for product related filings with provincial regulators
  • Oversees the development and compliance of broker audits
  • Develops and maintains contractual agreements with outside service providers
  • Provides leadership to attract/retain high quality talent, including performance management, talent management, appropriate employee communication, sound structure/processes, etc.
  • Creates an environment that encourages productivity, collaboration, teamwork, a high level of professionalism, learning and development and a culture of profitable growth across the products business unit

Qualifications

  • Ten years of business experience
  • Three years in a management role
  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, actuarial science, or related discipline
  • Relevant industry-related certifications are considered a strong asset (CIP, FCIP, ACAS, FCAS)
  • Expert leadership skills with the ability to influence and gain respect, credibility and confidence from others
  • Ability to make excellent and well justified decisions in complex and high-pressure situations
  • Deep expertise and knowledge of Property and Casualty insurance, strategies, underwriting practices, guidelines, and the external operating environment.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment in which he/she is leading organizational change
  • Possesses personal characteristics of a strong leader – including personal resilience, adaptability, self-awareness and the charisma to develop and communicate a vision with passion
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication and presentation skills; ability to influence and effectively negotiate with stakeholders
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability and willingness to travel
