Job Overview

Working under minimal supervision, the Sr. Standards of Work Specialist-Commercial Insurance, contributes to Wawanesa's success through leading the design, development and/or modification of all commercial underwriting best practices, policies and procedures to ensure quality and consistency across Commercial Property, Casualty, Farm and Auto Portfolios and all Regional Operations.

 

The ideal candidate will possess an operations and/or commercial underwriting background and excellent writing skills with the aim of driving customer service, quality results and champion continuous improvement across Commercial Insurance. 

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of all commercial insurance underwriting best practices, processes, policies and procedures
  • Ensure that all best practices processes are designed and executed to optimize efficiencies and technical underwriting requirements 
  • Look for trends and recommends solutions along with contributing to the development and execution of improved policies, procedures and best practices to support business objectives
  • Work in partnership with Operational Excellence and Business Transformation to ensure optimization of all Commercial Insurance end to end processes to achieve service levels and technical underwriting objectives
  • Champion initiatives and receptive to both employee resistance and acceptance so that genuine understanding, commitment and change can occur
  • Work effectively and partner with product and regional teams, to problem solve and develop practical solutions to business problems
     
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years commercial insurance and/or operations experience. 
  • Completion of post-secondary degree/certificate or equivalent experience; actively working towards CIP designation would be considered an asset.
  • Technical competence in automobile and/or farm and/or property/casualty underwriting with a solid understanding and application of best practices in commercial insurance
  • Ability to use critical thinking, logic, critical reasoning and good judgement to get to the root of issues.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct detailed analysis of information and to select and implement best solutions in a timely manner.
  • Excellent writing skills, including spelling, punctuation and grammatical skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate at the right level for the intended audience.
  • Strong planning and organizing skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
  • Ability to effectively tailor messaging to target different audiences and represent different presenters.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Product Suite.
  • Experience writing/creating/producing materials across a variety of platforms.
  • Excellent attention to detail skills to with the ability to develop relevant information and produce quality deliverables.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Fluency in French is considered an asset.
