We will offer in-person training with a target starting date of April 17th or April 24th, 2023 for the first week at our North York, ON (4120 Yonge St) location.

Job Overview

The Casualty Claims Representatives - Auto Bodily Injury Liability contributes to Wawanesa’s goal of delivering an exceptional and consistent claims service experience through the fair and equitable adjustment of moderate to complex auto bodily injury claims. We are currently accepting applications for all levels which progress to more complex claim handling; the current levels are 1, 2 and Senior. You will have the opportunity to handle litigation files from beginning to end, regardless of the level you would be considered for. 

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service to our customers, brokers and preferred partners
  • Handle single and multi-party, large and complex Auto Bodily Injury Liability Claims 
  • Interpret policy wordings, determine claim coverage and collaborate with Underwriting as required
  • Ensure early and appropriate liability investigation by proactively gathering facts from various sources
  • Knowledge of Regulations such as Negligence Act, Insurance Act, and others
  • Evaluate relevant information from various sources including medical, legal, financial and vocational to quantify loss
  • Request and evaluate relevant information from sources such as Claimants, Insureds, Plaintiff Counsel, Defence Counsel, medical providers/institutions, experts, and others, in order to assess exposure, quantify the loss and achieve a fair and reasonable claim resolution
  • Through proactive claims handling, ensure early exposure identification and establishment of reserves
  • Negotiate settlement with claimants, lawyers and other insurers by establishing proactive negotiation strategy
  • Ensure detailed and timely claim documentation based on company standards and policies within the claims system
  • Maintain file litigation strategy and collaborate with legal partners
  • Attend mediations, court proceedings and other dispute resolution processes, as required
  • Remain up-to-date with legislative changes and trends in the insurance industry and apply to claims handling/defence strategies
  • Contribute to overall Casualty Claims initiatives and implementation
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Experience required in handling Auto Bodily Injury claims, specific to Ontario;
    • Casualty Claims Representative Level II : Minimum of 2+ years of progressive Casualty claims handling experience, with knowledge of Auto Bodily Injury Liability Claims
    • Casualty Claims Representative, Senior : Minimum of 5 years of progressive Casualty claims handling experience, with advanced knowledge of Auto Bodily Injury Liability Claims (Personal and Commercial Lines)
  • Obtained or working toward Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) Designation and a desire to continue relevant industry education (FCIP, CRM, etc.)
  • College/University degree preferred
  • Excellent customer service skills including patience, empathy and concern for our customers along with the ability to understand customer needs while meeting established quality service standards 
  • Proven knowledge of coverage wordings, policy interpretation, case law, legislation, and insurance regulations
  • Expert investigative, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct detailed analysis of information, and to select and implement best solutions in a timely manner
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral 
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Excellent knowledge of medical and legal terminology
  • Excellent teamwork skills
  • Highly proficient time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work in a continuous improvement environment
  • Detail oriented with a critical degree of accuracy regarding data interpretation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is an asset
  • Exposure to the Guidewire Insurance Suite of products is an asset
