Job Overview

Working under minimal supervision, the Actuary is responsible for leading development of best practices integration into processes and methods used by the Personal Insurance Pricing actuarial team. They function as experts in actuarial methodologies and mentor actuarial staff at all levels in the understanding and use of these methods. They are familiar with regulation and legislations in the Quebec region in which we write business and ensure the methodologies used comply with such.  


Job Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintain ‘best practice’ processes and methodologies in the relevant actuarial area.
  • Ensures that best practices are fully communicated and understood through training and mentoring of actuarial staff.
  • Provides oversight of actuarial analysis ensuring the correct implementation of best practice actuarial methodologies.
  • Leads the implementation of approved refinements to current actuarial methodologies as appropriate to meet the organizational objectives.
  • Ensures procedures are in place to collect the relevant data necessary for the actuarial process and verify its availability, completeness and accuracy.
  • Plays an active role in the interpretation of data and statistical studies in the relevant actuarial area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, handling special projects as assigned by the manager or director.
  • Undergraduate university degree in Actuarial Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematics or other related field of study.
  • Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society, Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries
  • Minimum of 5 years prior work experience in insurance or related field
  • High level of proficiency with relevant modeling software such as Emblem, Classifier or Radar
  • Extensive knowledge of current actuarial methodologies.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Property Casualty insurance industry and general insurance operations
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to understand context and its impact on all issues
  • Extensive programming knowledge and strong programming skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Adapts to change effectively
  • Fluency in French an asset, but not required
