Job Overview


Wawanesa Insurance is looking for an exceptional candidate to join our expanding Pricing Research & Development (R&D) team in either an Actuarial Analyst II, Senior Actuarial Analyst, Actuarial Consultant, or Actuary role. As a member of the Pricing R&D team, your focus will be on improving our pricing sophistication, best practices, and evaluating new methods and data sources to support the advancement of our regional pricing teams. You will mentor actuarial analysts while applying their knowledge to complex actuarial analysis in the pursuit of solving business issues and answering business questions.


Job Responsibilities



  • Research, extract, and manipulate complex data from all relevant sources
  • Identify relationships, problems/issues, and assess data quality

Actuarial and Statistical Methods

  • Create and validate models to answer business questions as assigned
  • Incorporate, understand and transfer knowledge of current methods, while ensuring completeness and accuracy
  • Review current methods against relevant best practices and recommend improvements as needed


  • Identify opportunities for automation of routine tasks
  • Develop creative new approaches to problem solving


  • Collaborating closely with various other teams to solve complex problems
  • Develop and deliver presentations to the actuarial groups

Workflow Management

  • Develop effective plans that define activities, resources, and timelines
  • Track the status of project timelines, tasks, and various activities


  • Undergraduate University degree in Actuarial Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematics or other related field of study
  • Associate/Fellowship of the Casualty Actuarial Society, Associate/Fellowship of the Society of Actuaries, or equivalent
  • 5 years’ work experience in insurance or related field
  • Experience with relevant modeling software such as Emblem, Classifier or Radar is considered an asset
  • Robust knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to translate problem solving methods and ideas to various computer languages efficiently and effectively
  • Ability to apply knowledge of actuarial science, mathematics, probability, statistics, principles of finance and business to problems in insurance
  • Understanding of database systems and how to interpret/extract data from those systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to communicate at the right level of complexity for the audience
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments in a timely manner
  • Works efficiently and cooperatively in a team environment and involve others when appropriate
  • Ability to ask effective questions to elicit detailed and relevant information
