Job Overview

 

This position is a senior role on the Communications team and is responsible for developing, implementing and managing various communications strategies that effectively inform and engage Wawanesa employees who work in our U.S. offices.

 

The Manager, Corporate Communications  U.S. Operations will provide strategic guidance and leadership in the development of results-oriented multi-channel communications strategies and will possess the writing talents to create the tactics within those strategies. Reporting to the Director, Corporate & Employee Communications based in Winnipeg, Canada, this individual will have responsibility to lead, develop and support the communication needs of the President, U.S. Operations on a day-to-day basis. The incumbent will possess a passion for driving employee engagement, and be well-versed and ready to recommend best practices. 

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 


•    Develop, manage and implement internal communication strategies and plans for Wawanesa General’s employees, operating in the United States. 
•    Working closely with the President of the U.S. Operations and senior management team, recommend and implement appropriate plans of action including strategy, messaging, tactics and vehicles to effectively engage employees;
•    Support the U.S. rollout of enterprise wide communications strategies as directed by the Director of Corporate & Employee Communications;
•    Prepare high-quality communications materials such as employee messages, PowerPoint presentations, speaking notes, poster copy, feature stories, key messages, intranet pages, toolkits and video scripts;
•    Track and report to senior management in the U.S. and Canada on the success of internal communication initiatives and programs;
•    Prepare speeches for the President and senior leadership team for internal and external presentations;
•    Use industry best practices, metrics, data and insights to help drive employee communications programs and activities as well as identify how well communication channels are working and where improvements are needed to perform in an ever-increasing digital environment
•    Develop and maintain exceptional working relationships with teams and leaders across the organization, responding to their needs and balancing them with organizational priorities and internal resources.
•    Act as spokesperson for local media if necessary

Qualifications


•    Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Communications, Journalism, English or Marketing 
•    Minimum of ten years of experience in the communications industry, preferably with a focus on employee communications, and fluency in the most current communications practices 
•    Demonstrable success designing and managing national communications programs for employees
•    Expert writing and editing skills with the ability to write in a variety of styles and media, and exercise accuracy and attention to detail
•    Strong editorial judgement with the capability to fully understand business issues and manage high impact and critical communication situations
•    Media relations and prior spokesperson experience an asset
•    Ability to adjust priorities to manage new and emerging issues and opportunities
•    Strategic thinker with effective analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
•    Experienced at working effectively with senior executives 
•    Comfortable working on an international team 
•    Ability to align key stakeholders to decisions and work collaboratively to get desired stories told
•    Ability to manage projects effectively
•    Exceptional organizational skills and demonstrated ability to thrive in a demanding, fast-paced environment and manage multiple, concurrent deadlines under tight timelines; 
•    Highly self-motivated, reliable and responsible 
•    Enjoys building programs, developing people and educating an organization about the power of communications
