Job Overview

Working under minimal supervision, the Senior Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for the creation, maintenance, and utilization of quality assurance within the Commercial Insurance Underwriting function. The successful candidate will work with their leader in ensuring that corporate underwriting policies, procedures and controls are working effectively and in support Wawanesa’s strategic goals and objectives.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the regional underwriting file review program for Canadian regions to ensure adherence to our underwriting guidelines, policies, procedures and authorities
  • Perform independent quality assurance reviews on an ad hoc basis 
  • Lead and coordinate the development and implementation of an automated business review program for Canadian regions to validate adherence to authority and adequacy of controls
  • Analyze results to identify trends, make observations, and recommend actions that changes in behaviour for improved results and achievement of strategic objectives
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of best practices and documentation for identifying and mitigating risk in alignment with corporate strategies
  • Participate in underwriting initiatives with underwriting leaders across our Canadian regions, develop action plans and follow up to drive financial results and efficiencies
  • Assist with the management of responses to internal and external audit findings
  • Support initiatives relating to governance and compliance as required
  • Maintain awareness of industry trends and changes to ensure Wawanesa is prepared to respond in a manner consistent with our vision and values
  • Maintain, track, and ensure timely response to various operational reporting deadlines as assigned
  • Promotes the Company's Code of Conduct and values, and models’ behaviors that align to these principles

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years commercial underwriting experience
  • Experience conducting quality assurance reviews 
  • Post-secondary education and/or completion of a Property and Casualty industry designation
  • Ability to use critical thinking, logic, critical reasoning and good judgement to get to the root of issues
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct detailed analysis of information and to select and implement best solutions in a timely manner
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate at the right level for the audience and present information or arguments in a convincing manner
  • Strong planning and organizing skills, with the ability to develop and prioritize effective plans that define activities, resources and timelines
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Power BI 
  • Farm and auto underwriting experience considered an asset
  • Bilingual in French and English is not required but considered beneficial
  • Ability and willingness to travel
