Job Overview

Working under moderate supervision, the Application Developer (either as an Application Developer I, II, or Senior) will be part of our Enterprise Integrations team and contribute to the success of Wawanesa by enhancing, maintaining, and supporting our business systems and applications with a focus on Enterprise Integrations.
 
The Enterprise Integrations Team builds and maintains integrations and APIs for cross-product functionality, which spans across IT security and Operations to ensure that 3rd party products and services are leveraged efficiently and effectively. 
 
The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a small agile scrum team model that facilitates rapid design, development and implementation of application changes that embodies a passion for continuous improvement and test-driven development.  You will have experience in application design and development and have relevant technical proficiency with programming languages such as Java, knowledge of webservices such as REST or SOAP, and preferably experience with enterprise integration platforms such as MuleSoft, Sonic, Biztalk, and/or Tibco.
 
Job Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and test software.
  • Prepare technical specifications from requirements.
  • Estimating and track progress of assigned work
  • Maintain the operation of business systems and applications.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve application incidents.
  • Participate in planning activities.
  • Create and update relevant documentation.
  • Enhance and adhere to established practices, processes, and guidelines.
  • Keep current with relevant technologies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Completed Post-secondary degree or diploma in software development or related academic and/or 2 or more years of practical experience performing an application development role building software using current programming languages and working with relational database systems and structure query languages.
  • Experience with agile methodologies (e.g. Scrum, Kanban).
  • Detail oriented with analytical and problem-solving skills to recognize and identify issues and take proper action to resolve them.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner with style fitting for the audience and message.
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively in a team environment by making quality contributions and supporting fellow team members.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to self-manage a fluctuating workload, with various situations and changing priorities.
  • Possesses a willingness to learn while keeping abreast of developments in the field and have the ability to apply learning to new situations. 
  • Experience using software development tools, such as JIRA, Confluence, Source Code Management is considered an asset.
  • Experience with Unix; Windows; Oracle; Microsoft SQL Server; Java is considered an asset.
  • Experience with enterprise integration technologies such as MulesSoft, Biztalk, Sonic, Tibco, Camel is considered an asset.
  • Experience in developing or consuming web services (SOAP / RESTFUL) is considered an asset.
  • Experience interfacing with AWS is considered an asset.  Certifications in relevant technology or processes is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience in Insurance industry is considered an asset.
