Job Overview

Working under minimal supervision, this role as an Application Developer is part of our Core Insurance Applications Incident & Operations Management team within the Core Insurance Applications Operations pillar. As an application developer on this team, you will contribute directly to Wawanesa's success by joining a high performing team focused on the stability, performance, and quality of our production Guidewire Core insurance platform.

 

The Insurance Applications Incident & Operational Management team focuses on our Core Guidewire platform, specifically the Guidewire InsuranceSuite. This includes the 4 key applications of PolicyCenter, BillingCenter, ClaimCenter and ContactManager. This team is responsible for performing regular operational duties, ensuring daily batches complete successfully and providing tier 2 application support for the Guidewire platform. This team is also responsible for validating vendor changes and coordinating certificates updates with our various 3rd party integration partners. 

 

The ideal candidate will be responsible for contributing to the overall stability of our production systems and will be expected to troubleshoot application issues reported by users, identify workarounds, and document issues to be fixed by the delivery teams. 

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting existing systems and providing tier 2 support
  • Diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving application incidents
  • Monitoring system dashboards, alerts, and logs to proactively detect and address issues
  • Responsible for creating and testing data change scripts using Gosu (preferred) or SQL 
  • Responsible for performing regularly scheduled operational duties, e.g. generate reports, test upcoming vendor changes, updates certificates
  • Create and update relevant documentation
  • Strong customer management skills including verbal and written communication
  • Follow established practices, processes, and guidelines
  • Keep current with relevant technologies
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Completion of Post-secondary degree or diploma in software development or equivalent experience
  • 2 to 4 years practical experience performing an application development role building software using current programming languages/techniques and working with relational database systems and structured query languages such as Java
  • Experience with Guidewire 10 or Guidewire Cloud (Aspen, Banff, Cortina, Dobson, Elysian, Flaine) preferred. Guidewire development (Gosu) experience is considered an asset
  • Experience with supporting Guidewire hosted in cloud and working with Guidewire Cloud Console (GCC) preferred
  • Detail oriented with analytical and problem-solving skills to recognize and identify issues and take proper action to resolve them
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner with style fitting for the audience and message
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively in a team environment by making quality contributions and supporting fellow team members
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to self-manage a fluctuating workload, with various situations and changing priorities
  • Possesses a willingness to learn while keeping abreast of developments in the field and can apply learning to new situations
  • Experience with ITSM and IS/ IT Operations processes are considered an asset
  • Experience using software development tools, such as JIRA, Confluence, Source Code Management and TeamCity is considered an asset
  • Experience with Unix; Windows; Oracle; Postgres; Microsoft SQL Server; are considered an asset
  • Guidewire certification is considered an asset
  • Knowledge and experience in the Insurance industry is considered an asset
