Job Overview

Working under minimal supervision, the Field Catastrophe Claims Representative will respond to select natural disasters, catastrophe and complex claim events by assisting impacted regions to provide adjusting, as well as inspection, investigation and estimation of both residential and commercial catastrophe property losses using estimating software. The Field Catastrophe Claims Representative will be required to travel across Canada to attend catastrophic loss events, and for potentially extended periods of time.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Inspect, investigate, evaluate, and  quantify claims pertaining to physical damage to property on a task or full handle basis. This includes losses resulting from Natural Disasters, complex events and any other claims as assigned. 
  • Responsible to travel across Canada as required
  • Maintain excellent knowledge and understanding of policy coverages, regional regulatory requirements and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) practices, including application and communication 
  • Collaborate with contractors, adjusters and  policy holders  in a timely manner to ensure the proactive handling of the claim 
  • Review and write estimates, perform re-inspections and assist with dispute resolutions as required
  • Keep accurate notes/documentation, ensuring the systems of record is are up to date and comprehensive
  • Abide by policies, procedures and Standard of Work documentation
  • Attend technical upgrading courses and keep abreast of industry advancements such as property repair procedures and materials
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to develop and deliver training, supporting the development of others
  • Recognize and provide recommendations as to when expert and/or vendors such as engineers and contents evaluation firms are required
  • Assist in the handling of large and/or complex claims as required
  • Perform other duties as required
     

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience property field adjusting, or equivalent, with strong knowledge and experience in the creation/analysis of property repair estimates (Xactware)
  • Valid Driver’s license, with satisfactory driving record
  • Working toward Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation which would include supporting adjuster licensing requirements
  • Post-Secondary education is an asset
  • Ability to travel within Canada on short notice, potentially for extensive periods of time.
  • Ability to work overtime hours as required and approved
  • Strong ability to adapt to new and changing situations, requirements, and priorities
  • Strong teamwork skills with the ability to facilitate collaboration including training and mentorship
  • Solid communication skills with the ability to write in a clear and concise manner and communicate at the right level for the audience.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask effectively and prioritize appropriately.
  • Strong negotiation and settlement skills
  • Strong client service orientation, with the ability to proactively anticipate needs and to act as an empathetic advisor.
