Job Overview
Working under minimal supervision, the Claims Technical Specialist – Casualty contributes to Wawanesa’s goal of delivering an exceptional and consistent claims service experience by supporting the Ontario region casualty claims operations leadership team and adjusting function, driving continuous improvement.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform ongoing support and subject matter expertise on claims file handling, strategy, action planning and resolution
- Lead and manage regional large loss process
- Chair large loss meetings and ensure appropriate escalation
- Provide ongoing support to the casualty leadership team
- Provide high level oversight of the most complex claims handled within the region, ensuring that robust, proactive action plans are established
- Issue settlement and reserve authority where appropriate
- Prepare and conduct training where appropriate
- Mentor and develop team members through the sharing of knowledge and best practices
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years Property and Casualty claims experience
- Expert knowledge of personal lines liability claims is required
- Expert knowledge of coverage wordings, policy interpretation, case law, legislation, and insurance regulations
- Proficient knowledge of property damage and commercial liability claims is preferred
- Knowledge of US claims is an asset
- Completed CIP or equivalent Property and Casualty industry designation
- College/University degree preferred
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Power Point and Excel
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct detailed analysis of information, and to select and implement best solutions in a timely manner
- Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate at the right level for the audience and present information or arguments in a convincing manner
- Good negotiation skills, with the ability to present information in a convincing manner
- Excellent teamwork skills, with the ability to ensure group objectives are met
