Salary: At Wawanesa, salary is only one component of a holistic, comprehensive and competitive offering that we provide to our employees. The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. The salary offered is estimated to be within the following range: $85,000- $125,000. Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are still encouraged to apply.

Job Overview

The Claims Supervisor, Special Investigation Unit contributes to Wawanesa’s goal of delivering an exceptional Counter Fraud program by providing leadership to the Special Investigation Unit (SIU), focusing on the achievement of key business goals and protecting the interests of the company, its insureds, and our communities. 


Job Responsabilities

 

  • Oversee and coach the SIU Investigative team to ensure the work environment is respectful, challenging, and rewarding, and employees are maximized to their full potential while contributing to the achievement of the company’s goals.
  • Manage SIU service standards by organizing, distributing, and monitoring work flow and setting priorities to ensure maximum quality, efficiency and productivity as guided by corporate policies, procedures and business plans.
  • Identify and recommend policy and process changes to support SIU engagement, productivity, and consistency.
  • Conduct or contribute to employee development, and employee performance management through coaching and following up on the development of technical competencies.
  • Conduct periodic review of SIU investigative files and coach team to strive for continuous improvement and development by setting and tracking individual and team performance objectives.
  • Provide subject matter expertise, direction, leadership, and training with respect to investigative and counter fraud strategy.
  • Foster positive working relationships with internal and external parties, including networking at industry events and support for industry wide fraud initiatives.
  • Support the development and implementation of business strategy and change for both short and long-term direction.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience investigating insurance claims or equivalent experience. (SIU experience an asset)
  • Minimum 2-3 years of people leadership experience.
  • Post secondary degree or insurance industry professional designation preferred.
  • Excellent customer service skills including empathy and concern for our customers.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to present information in a convincing and accurate manner.
  • Excellent investigative, analytical, and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for improvement and select and implement best solutions
  • Highly proficient time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work in a fast paced, changing environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of policy wordings in all lines of business, corporate guidelines, policies and procedures
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to review information carefully and comprehensively.
  • Ability to coach, guide, and positively influence employees.
  • Prior experience supervising an investigative unit or equivalent people leadership is an asset.
  • Experience with data analytics is an asset.
  • Bilingualism in French and English is considered an asset.
