Working Business Language: Bilingual in French and English. This role is considered a head office role and requires regular interaction with internal and external stakeholders across Canada where the business languages utilized are both English and French.  As such, the successful candidate must be fully proficient in English and French.

The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. The salary offered is estimated to be within the following range: $145,000 - $160,000. Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are still encouraged to apply.

Job Overview

Working under minimal supervision, the Manager, Quebec Auto Pricing is responsible for leading an actuarial pricing team focused on delivering Wawanesa’s Quebec Auto objectives. The role drives the development, implementation, and monitoring of pricing strategies that balance growth, profitability, and member value within the context of Quebec market.

 

Responsibilities

  • ​​Develop and maintain rating structures and rates, inclusive of soliciting input from multiple areas of the company.
  • ​Provide oversight of actuarial analysis of insurance rates, rating procedures and rating plans.
  • ​Develop rate change recommendations aligned with corporate financial objectives and regulatory expectations.
  • ​Assist with the implementation of approved refinements to current risk classification systems (rating plans), pricing models and ratemaking methodologies as appropriate to meet the organizational objectives.
  • ​Work with multiple areas of the company to identify profitable markets and design appropriate products.
  • ​Remain up to date on current accepted methodologies and new emerging methodologies in insurance pricing.
  • ​Ensure procedures are in place to collect the relevant data necessary for the pricing process and verify its availability, completeness and accuracy.
  • ​Monitor the company’s insurance portfolio relating to changes in mix of business, retentions, current/prospective profitability etc. and report to management as necessary.
  • ​Ensure required regulatory reporting for pricing activity is carried out.
  • ​Manage performance of direct reports inclusive of providing professional and technical guidance and provide regular performance reviews.
  • ​Develop and maintain appropriate relationships with regulators and professional associations.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate university degree in Actuarial Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematics or other related field of study.
  • Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society an asset
  • Strong knowledge of Quebec Auto insurance products, market dynamics and AMF regulatory environment
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal in French and English.
  • Management experience is an asset.
  • Extensive knowledge of current insurance pricing techniques.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Property Casualty insurance industry and insurance operations in general.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to understand context and its impact on all issues
  • Identifies when something needs to be done and initiates action as required
  • Adapts to change effectively
  • Develops and implements comprehensive plans that bridge complex issues and span across time
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop and communicate a vision
