Salary: At Wawanesa, salary is only one component of a holistic, comprehensive and competitive offering that we provide to our employees. The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. The salary offered is estimated to be within the following range: $110,000 - $150,000. Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are still encouraged to apply.

Job Overview
The Manager, Corporate Sustainability is responsible for the development and implementation of a strategic approach for sustainability & environmental, social and governance (ESG), aligned with, and in contribution to, Wawanesa’s enterprise strategy and the organization’s operations and business activities.
Job Responsibilities
- Collaborate with leadership to develop Wawanesa’s sustainability strategy plan and roadmap
- Lead the development of external sustainability disclosures, including sustainability reporting aligned with frameworks such as the Global
- Reporting Initiative (GRI), Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), and the
- International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB)
- Develop and maintain robust methodologies and data governance practices for sustainability metrics, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and alignment with performance indicators
- Monitor and assess the impact of evolving regulatory requirements on corporate sustainability strategy and risk exposure
- Lead the development and maintenance of the organization’s greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory, including Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, in alignment with recognized standards (e.g., GHG Protocol), and identify carbon management opportunities for emissions reduction across the value chain
- Lead materiality assessments to identify and prioritize the sustainability topics most relevant to the organization and its stakeholders, ensuring alignment with global reporting standards and strategic objectives
- Conduct leading practice research and analysis to develop corporate sustainability strategies to ensure that business practices, products, and services are environmentally and socially sustainable
- Partner with stakeholders and participate in the development of products and services that protect individuals, businesses and communities, which are often becoming increasingly affected by climate change
- Lead visible cross-functional project teams to build solutions across a wide range of sustainability related projects
- Identify partnership opportunities with global external influencers and subject matter specialists in order to drive our sustainability initiatives
- Establish a framework of critical metrics to measure progress of the company’s sustainability initiatives and engage with stakeholders to measure and report on these metrics
- Perform external market monitoring to benchmark Wawanesa relative to our industry competitors on sustainability performance
- Contribute to the Company’s annual report and other reports to highlight our progress and performance against approved sustainability goals and commitments
- Oversee and coach team members to ensure work environment is respectful, challenging, and rewarding and employees are maximized to their full potential while contributing to the achievement of the company's goals
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Minimum of 4-6 years of experience in strategy development and implementation of climate change, sustainability, or ESG related areas
- Experience in insurance (P&C/Life) is preferred
- Undergraduate degree in business, economics, sustainability, environmental science, engineering, or related field
- Experience with strategic planning, strategy development, or environmental consulting for enterprise organizations considered an asset
- Advanced business acumen, broad and analytical thinking, with demonstrated ability to balance strategic and financial implications with new trends and innovations
- Strong research and analysis skills; ability to frame key analyses required to address critical business issues
- Strong interpersonal, presentation and communication skills with the ability to effectively convey ideas in a persuasive and eloquent manner
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop and communicate a vision
- Ability to deal with ambiguity and conceptual ideas; creative and lateral thinker
- Strong stakeholder management skills
- Team-oriented, collaborative and flexible
- Advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint
- Completion of CIP designation considered an asset
- Ability and willingness to travel in Canada
