Salary: At Wawanesa, salary is only one component of a holistic, comprehensive and competitive offering that we provide to our employees. The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. The salary offered is estimated to be within the following range: $110,000 - $150,000. Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are still encouraged to apply.

Job Overview
Reporting to the Director of Claims Analytics & Insights, this role serves as a senior technical expert and thought leader within the Claims Analytics & Insights team. The Lead Claims Data Consultant transforms complex claims data into actionable insights, advanced analytics, and strategic recommendations that drive operational excellence. Acting as a trusted advisor to Claims leadership, this role influences decision-making through deep-dive analysis, innovative solutions, and best-in-class reporting, while mentoring other analysts and contributing to the evolution of Wawanesa’s data capabilities.
Job Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary technical expert for advanced analytics and complex data modeling within Claims Analytics & Insights.
- Lead the design and execution of deep-dive analyses to uncover trends, risks, and opportunities impacting Claims Operations.
- Develop and deliver high-impact dashboards, reports, and presentations tailored for senior leadership and strategic initiatives.
- Partner with Claims leadership and cross-functional teams (Actuarial, Data Management, IS, etc.) to identify analytical needs and recommend solutions.
- Drive enhancements to data quality, governance, and reporting standards; ensure adherence to best practices.
- Act as a mentor and technical coach for analysts, providing guidance on methodologies, tools, and problem-solving approaches.
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies and champion innovative analytics techniques and tools.
- Collaborate on budgeting, forecasting, and performance measurement initiatives, providing data-driven insights.
- Influence strategic decisions by presenting complex findings in a clear, actionable manner.
- Promote continuous improvement and challenge the status quo to advance analytical maturity.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Actuarial Science, or related discipline.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in data analytics, statistical modeling, or advanced reporting within P&C insurance or financial services.
- Expert-level proficiency in SQL and experience with database systems (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Redshift).
- Advanced programming skills (Python and R considered an asset).
- Strong experience with data visualization tools (Power BI considered an asset).
- Proven ability to design and execute complex analytical projects with minimal supervision.
- Deep understanding of data governance, quality assurance, and reporting best practices.
- Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills with a focus on actionable insights.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and present to senior leadership.
- Ability to mentor and guide other analysts without formal people management responsibilities.
- Experience with AWS cloud tools (Athena, Glue, Lambda, S3) considered an asset.
- Knowledge of P&C insurance claims processes and operational metrics preferred.
