The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. The salary offered is estimated to be within the following range: $85,000- $115,000 Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are still encouraged to apply.

Job Overview

Under the direction and supervision of the Manager, Financial & Oversight Functions Audits, the Senior Financial Auditor is responsible for planning and conducting financial and audits of the oversight functions to assess the adequacy of internal controls, the overall effectiveness of operations and to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Plans and conducts complex audits and advisory reviews for a variety of finance and oversight functions throughout the organization.
  • Assesses risk to the organization, develops audit approaches to effectively and efficiently assess if key controls and processes have been designed and are operating effectively.
  • Performs complex audit procedures, including analyzing and identifying opportunities to enhance processes and controls to improve risk mitigation and efficiency, developing criteria, reviewing and analyzing evidence, performing straightforward data analytics and documenting processes and procedures.
  • Conducts interviews, reviews documents, and prepares final working papers that support audit conclusions.
  • Identifies and documents complex issues and develops recommendations using independent judgement.
  • Effectively communicates results using written reports and oral presentations to senior management.
  • Performs Finding follow up activities including, proactively communicating with Action owners to assess completeness of the action and performing appropriate closure activities.
  • Develops and maintains positive working relationships with internal clients and various stakeholders.
  • Represents Internal Audit on project teams and at management meetings.
  • Assists with the development of the department’s annual audit plan.
  • Mentors junior team members, providing on going coaching and feedback. 
  • Pursues professional development opportunities and association memberships.
  • Assists with conducting special reviews on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Performs work on behalf of the external auditors during the year end audit.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Manager, Financial & Oversight Audits

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years internal or external auditing experience or a combination thereof
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent)
  • Bachelor of Commerce degree or other related post-secondary degree
  • Insurance related experience considered an asset.
  • Commitment to obtaining the CIA and/or CIP designation considered an asset.
  • Experience related to the operations of Insurance Brokerages considered an asset.
  • Experience with data analytics and visualization tools considered an asset.
  • Ability to travel periodically within Canada.
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational/time management skills, including ability to meet project deadlines.
  • Strong negotiation skills, including the ability to present issues in a convincing manner.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with highly sensitive and confidential information.
