Working Business Language: English. This role is considered a head-office role and will be required to communicate with internal and external stakeholders across Canada where the primary business language for this role is English. Salary: At Wawanesa, salary is only one component of a holistic, comprehensive and competitive offering that we provide to our employees. The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. The salary offered is estimated to be within the following range: $140,000 - $180,000.  Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are still encouraged to apply.

Job Overview

Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the Manager, Data Enablement plays a pivotal role in contributing to Wawanesa's success by creating effective partnerships with cross-functional teams and various data streams. Their primary objective is to create, oversee, and monitor adherence to data governance policies.
This individual serves as a catalyst for change, championing the adoption of data governance and stewardship principles throughout the organization's business units. In addition to this, they play a pivotal role in elevating data literacy levels across the organization and cultivating a culture that emphasizes the value of data.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the advancement of data stewardship initiatives across the enterprise, fostering wide adoption of data governance. Provides guidance to data owners and stewards using standardized approaches and state of the art tools to assist in improving data practices
  • Uphold and measure the degree of adoption of data governance initiatives. Collaborate closely with data owners, stewards, and technical stakeholders to craft and maintain data quality KPIs.
  • Cultivate and curate opportunities for augmenting data quality to data governance leaders and business stakeholders. Provide comprehensive, ongoing assessments and surveillance of data health. Promptly liaise with relevant business partners, actively participating in troubleshooting and resolution efforts.
  • Collaborate with Data & Analytics Office leaders to build and execute training programs. Produce reports to illustrate the efficacy of program activities.
  • Support management-level, and Data Governance Committee (DGC) meetings performing tasks as required. Act as a conduit to escalate any issues and represent the broader steward community's requirements for data.
  • Lead the development of Master Data Management (MDM) processes and process architecture
  • Lead ongoing maintenance and vitality of existing mastered domains (MDM)
  • Lead Stewardship and continuous data improvement for day-to-day operations
  • Prioritization of subject areas (data domains) requiring MDM (moving beyond Member)
  • Lead the transition of MDM process by subject area (data domains) to the operations team post implementation for ongoing maintenance and vitality
  • Ensure that data is classified according to the IS Security guidelines.
  • Assume accountability for the day-to-day operations of the Data Enablement team, ensuring the seamless execution of data governance initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years in leadership roles, showcasing a wealth of experience and leadership acumen 
  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative, technical, or business-related field, complemented by 3-5 years of experience in data, analytics, or a related field.
  • Expert in data management principles and practices, Governance and Stewardship best practices and Data Quality frameworks.
  • Adept at communicating with stakeholders across all hierarchical levels, adept at building consensus, influencing without formal authority, and driving the implementation of decisions.
  • Possesses outstanding oral, written, collaboration and presentation skills, bridging the gap between business and technical concepts seamlessly.
  • Demonstrates a robust ability to implement governance practices in a manner that aligns with an organization's overarching goals and objectives.
  • Proven expertise in building consensus across multifunctional teams, earning the trust and cooperation of both staff and leadership.
  • Proficient in making well-informed and judicious decisions, even in complex and high-pressure situations. Possesses the capacity to mentor and coach others in the art of decision-making. 
  • Previous experience in the insurance and finance industry is viewed as a valuable asset, providing additional context and insight into the nuances of this specific domain.
