Salary: At Wawanesa, salary is only one component of a holistic, comprehensive and competitive offering that we provide to our employees. The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. The salary offered is estimated to be within the following range: $120,000- $170,000. Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are still encouraged to apply.

Job Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Manager, Corporate Actuarial Forecasting to join our growing team, as we evolve and modernize the corporate actuarial function at Wawanesa.


In this role, you will be primarily responsible for P&C Financial Condition Testing and modelling of the financial business plan. You will lead a team of technical experts and will provide coaching and leadership to those individuals on your team.


The ideal candidate has a minimum of 5 years’ property and casualty actuarial experience, preferably with Financial Condition testing and business planning experience, and thrives in an environment where they can bring their technical expertise and coaching or leadership experience to the team.

 
Job Responsibilities

  • Continuously model the financial impact of events to project Wawanesa’s current and future financial position.
  • Leads the creation of the annual Financial Condition Testing report and any additional scenarios requested by internal or external stakeholders.
  • Regularly monitors the financial position of the company and provides insights and recommendations to product owners where appropriate.
  • Ensures the reporting process around actuarial aspects of financial and regulatory reporting is accurate and completed on time. 
  • Monitors company actions and partners with key stakeholders to contribute to a shared understanding of past financial performance, changes in the business operations, and develop insights into future performance and the business plan.
  • Identifies and recommends areas of improvement to increase the accuracy and efficiency of the department.
  • Manages performance of direct reports inclusive of providing professional and technical guidance and provide regular performance reviews.
  • Collaborates with other members of the Corporate Actuarial team to continuously enhance actuarial oversight practices and achieve Corporate Actuarial objectives. 
  • Remains up to date on all regulatory and legal actions/decisions affecting insurance company operations in general and the corporate actuarial group specifically.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 
     

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years’ property and casualty actuarial experience
  • Degree in Actuarial Science, Math, Statistics, Finance, or a related field.
  • Associate or Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society or the equivalent from other organizations. 
  • Extensive knowledge of current insurance actuarial techniques. the Property Casualty insurance industry and insurance operations in general.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to spot patterns, trends, understand context and its impact on all issues.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills with the ability to effectively convey complex ideas in a simple, persuasive and eloquent manner.  
  • Ability to coach and develop direct reports on technical and non-technical skills.
  • Comfortable confronting difficult issues and diplomatic in delivery of challenging messages.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other departments.
  • Superior attention to detail and accuracy.
