The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. The salary offered is estimated to be within the following range: $160,000- $210,000. Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are still encouraged to apply.

Job Overview

As an Insurance Product Owner, you will work closely with a team of partners to deliver insurance products, services and capabilities to our members and brokers. 
 

Your contributions will help evolve the member and broker experience through simplified, intuitive and informed Product design, putting the member’s needs first, through a full lifecycle Product Management Process. Our collaborative framework will bring together internal players from various functions including, but not limited to Technology, Sales, Marketing, Compliance, and Region Operations. 

Job Responsibilities

The Director plays an important, high visibility and high impact role in the organization. As the Product Owner the Director is:

 

  • Accountable for the financial results of a personal automobile product portfolio 
  • Responsible for pricing strategy including continuous improvement in rate segmentation, overall rate level management and evolution of rate algorithms based on organizational strategy 
  • Oversees the development, communication and maintenance of underwriting guidelines and procedures, rating rules product wordings and the go-to-market strategy
  • Works with their peers in other areas like claims, distribution, data science to develop a holistic strategy for their product
  • Responsible for regulatory compliance with provincial and federal regulation in product and pricing changes
  • Monitors internal performance metrics and external trends with intention to action quickly and stay atop of emerging trends
  • Incorporates findings, feedback and insights from member and business research
  • Maintains an in-depth knowledge of market and product trends, the competitive environment, regulatory actions and decisions and rallies the appropriate team to formulate and implement a response where required
  • Engages senior leaders and facilitates collaboration to drive development and execution of actions as an outcome of portfolio management and serves as the main point of contact for their product line
  • Lead key initiatives from inception, supervising the successful launch and distribution
  • Oversee all stages of product creation including design, development, and deployment using Wawanesa’s Product Management Process guidelines
  • Develops, coaches/mentors and manages the performance of direct reports
  • Provides leadership to attract/retain high quality talent
  • Creates an environment that encourages productivity, collaboration, teamwork, a high level of professionalism, learning and development and a culture of profitable growth across the products business unit

Qualifications

  • Minimum of ten years Property and Casualty industry experience with three years in a leadership role.
  • Undergraduate university degree in Commerce, Actuarial Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematics or other related field of study.
  • MBA, ACAS or Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society strongly preferred
  • Strong business acumen with excellent analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to recognize and identify critical issues.
  • Expert leadership skills with the ability to influence and gain respect, credibility and confidence from others
  • Ability to make excellent and well justified decisions in complex and high-pressure situations
  • Deep expertise and knowledge of Property and Casualty insurance, strategies, regulations, pricing and underwriting practices, guidelines, and the external operating environment.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment in which he/she is leading organizational change
  • Possesses personal characteristics of a strong leader – including personal resilience, adaptability, self-awareness and the charisma to develop and communicate a vision with passion
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication and presentation skills; ability to influence and effectively negotiate with stakeholders
  • CIP, FCIP, or equivalent Property and Casualty industry designation considered an asset
