Salary: At Wawanesa, salary is only one component of a holistic, comprehensive and competitive offering that we provide to our employees. The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. The salary offered is estimated to be within the following range: $160, 000 - $215, 000. Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are still encouraged to apply.

Job Overview

The Director, Advanced Analytics - Explorations plays a pivotal role in identifying, prioritizing, and exploring advanced analytics opportunities within Wawanesa. This role is responsible for leading the discovery of new analytics capabilities and driving analytical innovation that aligns with Wawanesa’s strategic objectives. The Director, Advanced Analytics - Explorations will work closely with cross-functional teams to evaluate, prioritize, and execute opportunities that leverage advanced analytics techniques, with a strong focus on Artificial Intelligence to deliver business value.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and evolution of Wawanesa’s Data & Analytics strategy, ensuring alignment with emerging opportunities in advanced analytics
  • Lead the exploration of new and emerging analytics opportunities, ensuring alignment with Wawanesa’s overall business strategy and long-term goals
  • Assess and prioritize advanced analytics initiatives, particularly those focused on Artificial Intelligence, based on potential impact, feasibility, and alignment with corporate objectives
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders across the organization, including senior leadership, to ensure alignment on analytics initiatives and priorities
  • Communicate complex analytical concepts and potential opportunities to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and compelling manner
  • Leverage business acumen and insurance knowledge to maximize the success of the advanced analytics exploration team
  • Collaborate with the Director, Model Operations to ensure a seamless transition from exploration to operationalization of analytics models
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of analytics professionals focused on the exploration and development of new analytics capabilities
  • Stay abreast of the latest trends, tools, and best practices in advanced analytics, particularly in Artificial Intelligence
  • Identify and implement improvements to the advanced analytics operating model and exploration processes to increase efficiency, effectiveness, and impact
  • Encourage collaboration and knowledge sharing within the team and across departments
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science, Business Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field; advanced degree preferred
  • 8+ years of experience in advanced analytics, with a strong track record of identifying and developing new analytics capabilities, especially in Artificial Intelligence
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex analytics projects from concept to execution
  • Strong understanding of advanced analytics techniques, tools, and emerging technologies, with a particular focus on Artificial Intelligence
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and drive innovation in a dynamic environment
  • Experience in insurance or financial services is an asset
  • Actuarial background is an asset
