Working Business Language: English. This role is considered a head-office role and will be required to communicate with internal and external stakeholders across Canada where the primary business language for this role is English. As such, the successful candidate must be fully proficient in English.  

Salary: At Wawanesa, salary is only one component of a holistic, comprehensive and competitive offering that we provide to our employees. The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. The salary offered is estimated to be within the following range: $85,000 - $110,000.  Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are still encouraged to apply.

Job Overview

The Cyber Security Advisor role contributes to Wawanesa’s success by assessing technical risk, identifying security requirements and advising internal stakeholders on the implementation of controls to protect Wawanesa’s data while maintaining & strengthening the organizational risk posture.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides advisory support to Technology and Business Teams by ensuring alignment with Security standards and policies with a focus on implementation of controls in applications, data, cloud platforms, systems, networks and end-point solutions.
  • Consults broadly with both Technology and Business Teams to guide and influence implementation of security in technology decisions and initiatives.
  • Contributes to the development of security guidelines, design patterns, standards, and best practices for use by Technology and Business Teams.
  • Provides a security advisory service with respect to policies, standards, procedures, and major industry regulations for Wawanesa’s applications.
  • Act as an enabling function providing security consultations Technology and Business projects.
  • Foster and promote security culture amongst all Technology and Business stakeholders.
  • Research and understand emerging technologies and concepts in the industry.
  • Perform technology risk assessments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of systems and technology related experience  including Cyber Security.
  • Experience in an internal or external consulting or advisory function considered a significant asset.
  • Consistently applies a performance and service-oriented mindset and approach to daily work practices; integrates a consultative and enabling work style to all aspects of the role.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of securing AI systems and applications, as well as leveraging AI technologies for research, process improvement, and identifying opportunities for automation.
  • Experience with M365, MS Azure, Amazon Web Servicesand other cloud technologies and platforms.
  • Experience advising stakeholders on secure by design principles for legacy in-house, COTS, andSaaS based applications.
  • Working knowledge of industry standard technical security controls.
  • Working knowledge of Cyber Security and Risk Management frameworks.
  • Working knowledge of security tools and technologies.
  • Ability to build relationships and use facilitation skills with both technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, in a persuasive and eloquent manner.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage and prioritize workloads.
  • Possession of industry related certifications is considered an asset.
  • Experience in the insurance/finance industry is considered an asset.
  • Experience leading projects or initiatives is an asset.
