The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. The salary offered is estimated to be within the following range: $85, 000 - $105, 000. Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are still encouraged to apply.

Job Overview

The Cyber Security Advisor role contributes to Wawanesa’s success by advising technical and business teams on the implementation of security requirements to protect data and maintain & strengthen the organizational risk posture.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Serves as the primary contact and internal cybersecurity advisor for assigned projects and initiatives within Wawanesa
  • Employs a wide array of analytical techniques and research strategies to assess information and devise well-reasoned solutions to complex cybersecurity issues
  • Collaborates with cross-functional stakeholders, and Information Security team members to provide support and solutions as an enabling function
  • Provides advisory support to Insurance and Technology groups by ensuring alignment with Security standards and policies with a focus on implementation of controls in applications, data, cloud platforms, systems, networks and end-point solutions
  • Consults broadly with both Technology and Business teams to guide and influence implementation of security in technology decisions and initiatives.
  • Contributes to the development of security guidelines, design patterns, standards, and best practices for use by Insurance and Technology teams.
  • Provides a security advisory service regarding policies, standards, procedures, and major industry regulations for Wawanesa’s applications.
  • Fosters and promotes security culture amongst all Insurance and Technology stakeholders.
  • Maintains an in-depth understanding of the latest cybersecurity technologies, innovations, risks, emerging threats and industry developments.
  • Performs software asset risk assessments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 3 or more years of Information Services/Information Technology related experience with minimum of 1 year in a Cyber Security related role.
  • Working knowledge of industry standard technical security controls.
  • Working knowledge of Cyber Security and Risk Management frameworks.
  • Working knowledge of security tools and technologies.
  • Experience with M365 and other cloud technologies and platforms.
  • Experience with secure design of SaaS based applications.
  • Familiarity with assessing and understanding vulnerability assessments.
  • Ability to build relationships and use facilitation skills with both technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Ability to communicate, verbally and in writing, persuasively and eloquently.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage and prioritize workloads.
  • Possession of industry-related certifications is considered an asset.
  • Experience in the insurance/finance industry is considered an asset.
  • Experience leading projects or initiatives is an asset.
