Salary: At Wawanesa, salary is only one component of a holistic, comprehensive and competitive offering that we provide to our employees. The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. The salary offered is estimated to be within the following range: $110,000- $170,000. Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are still encouraged to apply.

Job Overview
Wawanesa is looking for an exceptional candidate to take on the role of Manager, Pricing Research and Development in our expanding Pricing Excellence team. This newly created manager role will be responsible for improving our pricing sophistication through leadership of loss cost models, collaborating closely with pricing leaders in leveraging the models to optimize rate changes for our members.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide oversight in development and maintenance of loss cost models, inclusive of soliciting input from multiple areas of the company.
- Remain up to date on current accepted methodologies and emerging methodologies in pricing modelling.
- Lead explorations of new datasets and approaches to continuously improve modelling performance.
- Ensure procedures are in place to utilize all valuable data necessary for the modelling process and verify its availability, completeness and accuracy.
- Lead team to operate within a streamlined, consistent, modelling process that enables efficient creation of high performing models.
- Ensure applicable regulation and data privacy boundaries are appropriately considered, prioritizing the model risk management framework and accepted actuarial practices throughout modelling process.
- Assist the pricing team towards implementation of optimized refinements to current pricing algorithms and ratemaking methodologies as appropriate to meet the organizational objectives.
- Manage performance of direct reports inclusive of providing professional and technical guidance, and provide regular performance reviews.
- Play an active role in the interpretation of data and statistical studies in the pricing area.
- Perform other duties as assigned, handling special projects as assigned by Director, Pricing Excellence.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate university degree in Actuarial Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematics or other related field of study.
- Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society an asset.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in insurance modelling techniques, including GLMs and GBMs.
- Extensive knowledge of the Property Casualty insurance industry and insurance operations in general.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to understand context and its impact on all issues.
- Identifies when something needs to be done and proactively initiates action as required.
- Adapts to change effectively.
- Develops and implements comprehensive plans that bridge complex issues and span across time.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop and communicate a vision.
