Salary: At Wawanesa, salary is only one component of a holistic, comprehensive and competitive offering that we provide to our employees. The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. The salary offered is estimated to be within the following range: $100,000- $160,000. Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are still encouraged to apply.

Job Overview
As an Actuarial Consultant, you will work independently and help improve the best practices for the Corporate Actuarial Forecasting team. You will learn about financial statements and capital management by working with different stakeholders on creating a Budget and doing Financial Condition Testing. You will provide or support actuarial services for various teams, such as pricing, finance, reserving, business development, claims, and operation. You will also mentor actuarial analysts and use your knowledge to do complex actuarial analysis and solve business problems and questions. This role is considered a head-office role and will be required to communicate with internal stakeholders across Canada where the primary business language utilized is English. We are open to hiring at either the Actuarial Consultant, Senior Actuarial Consultant or Actuarial Expert level.
Job Responsibilities
- Analytical
- Research, extract, and manipulate complex data from relevant sources, and assesses data quality for Budget and Financial Condition Testing projects
- Support the business and overall team by performing analyses/reviews and completing ad-hoc requests/special projects in a timely manner with minimal support from peers and leaders
- Identify opportunities for automation of routine tasks
- Communication
- Construct and provide progress updates and reports regarding Forecasting team’s objectives and tasks
- Communicate Budget and FCT analysis and recommendations to diverse audience
- Build Business Acumen
- Understand and interpret government regulations and internal policies
- Identify the business requirements for a given task and initiate action as required
- Understanding the insurance mechanism in general, as well as how it works at Wawanesa
- Commitment to Learning
- Understanding of current industry and professional standards/environment which impact decisions and indicate requirements
- Commit to professional development and continuous experiential learning to build cross-functional knowledge, technical skills, and mastery in competencies

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or other related field
- Four or more years of P&C actuarial experience preferred
- Pursuing FCAS, 7 CAS exams or ACAS designation an asset
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to identify areas for improved efficiency and suggest solutions, and assess impacts of these solution options
- Strong attention to detail when performing analysis with minimal technical errors
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, effective at comfortably communicating analysis and results to senior leaders, and influencing direct leader to accept recommendations.
- Proficiency with Excel, SQL, R, and/or other related software/programming
- Ability to prioritize and complete multiple concurrent assignments, both individually and as a leader of a group, in a timely manner while proactively keeping leader informed of progress
- A team player who can challenge the status quo respectfully and seek feedback for improvement
