Job Overview

The Senior Field Claims Adjuster-Large Loss contributes to Wawanesa’s goal of delivering an exceptional and consistent claims service experience through the fair and equitable adjustment of highly complex property claims through personal contact with insureds, claimants, and witnesses.  

 

In this role, you decide if your preference is to work from home (remote), work from the office or a hybrid of both. This role is required within Edmonton and surrounding areas. 

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service
  • Interpret policy wordings, determines policy coverage and ensure appropriate reserving
  • Attend and investigate losses to determine circumstances of the loss, obtaining statements, photographing and assessing damages
  • Evaluate relevant information from sources such as C&O, Engineers, and other experts
  • Write scope and estimate of loss using property estimating software Xactimate
  • Negotiate with insureds, lawyers and insurers
  • Coordinate services with vendors and service providers
  • Adjust claim from inception to completion in a proactive manner with exceptional customer service always in mind
  • Provide ongoing technical advice and guidance to junior claims staff
  • Maintain accurate records based on company standards and policies within the claims system
  • Supplement the National Catastrophe Team as required for Corporate Catastrophe Response in any region
  • Remain up-to-date with legislative changes and trends in the insurance industry
  • Travel to and from claims within Southern Alberta
  • Collaborate with other teams within the property department
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of insurance claims adjusting experience 
  • Highly proficient in adjusting large loss and complex residential losses $300,000+. Minimum 5 years experience in large loss adjusting required.
  • Experience handling Farm and Outbuilding claims
  • College/University degree is preferred
  • Chartered Insurance Professional Designation, or near completion
  • Excellent knowledge of property estimating software, Xactware expertise required
  • Proficient in the Commercial Express building evaluator software
  • Effective customer service skills including empathy and concern for our customers
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Excellent investigative and analytical skills
  • Highly proficient time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work in a fast paced, changing environment
  • Detail oriented with a critical degree of accuracy regarding data entry
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Valid driver license with acceptable driving record
