Job Overview

The Field Claims Representative contributes to Wawanesa’s goal of delivering an exceptional and consistent claims service experience through the fair and equitable adjustment of moderate to complex property claims through personal contact with insureds, and witnesses.  Daily travel is required. This is an intermediate to advanced adjusting role. This position is a work from home position and requires mobile work and work from a home office.  This position is responsible to investigate and determine causation, coverage, evaluate damage, communicate with vendors providing detailed direction, estimating loss damages, negotiating with vendors, ensuring the customer experience and communication is exceptional through the life of the claim.


Job Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service
  • Investigate and evaluate losses to gather facts and determine the cause of loss, coverage, limitations, extensions, and exclusions, obtain statements, gather evidence, including analyzing contracts involved, bylaws, or other relevant documents related to the claim
  • Establish timely and accurate claim and expense reserves
  • Interpret policy wordings, determine policy coverage, thoroughly documenting the review in claim systems. Completes field inspection of losses, writing scope and estimates of losses using property estimating software
  • Negotiate with insureds, lawyers and insurers
  • Coordinate services with vendors and service providers
  • Adjust claim from inception to completion in a proactive manner following all Property Claim Resource guides.
  • Identify and engage other internal and external sources when needed on a claim-by-claim basis.
  • Provide ongoing technical advice and guidance to junior inside claims staff
  • Maintain accurate records based on company standards and policies within the claims system
  • Supplement the National Catastrophe Team as required for Corporate Catastrophe Response in any region
  • Remain up-to-date with legislative changes and trends in the insurance industry
  • Write articulate, effective business letters relating to coverage letters, Reservation of Rights and other complex correspondence
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Mobility within given territory to attend and inspect sites daily
  • Work with a broad suite of technologies to efficiently and accurately bring claims to the optimal resolution
  • Maintain your inventory to ensure files are continuously worked actively to conclusion
  • Performs administrative functions relating to expense accounts, time off reporting, vehicle usage logs and other related tasks.
  • Well-developed analytical skills, as a field property claims adjuster is expected to critically look at damages in claims and different facets of information
  • Sound communication skills to negotiate with insured, interview witnesses and job professionals, and communicate with field experts and police officers. Besides, field property claims adjusters are expected to write reports in order to determine damages
  • Good interpersonal skills, as working with insureds require empathy, tact and compassion.
  • Sound math skills, as a field property claims adjuster is required to calculate the damage caused by a loss

Qualifications

  • 2+ years insurance adjusting experience
  • Working toward Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation
  • Strong knowledge of property estimating software, Xactware knowledge preferred
  • Effective customer service skills including empathy and concern for our customers
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Excellent investigative and analytical skills
  • Highly proficient time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work in a fast paced, changing environment
  • Good knowledge of medical and legal terminology
  • Detail oriented with a critical degree of accuracy regarding data entry
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Valid driver license with acceptable driving record
  • College/University degree is preferred

 

Other

  • This position requires the individual to access and inspect all areas of a dwelling or structure, which is physically demanding requiring the ability to carry, set up and climb a ladder weighing approximately 18 to 23 kilograms, walk on roofs, and enter tight spaces (such as attic staircases, crawl spaces, or other small spaces). Safely inspects all losses keeping in up to date with Provincial Health and Safety guidelines, completing required reporting on every inspection.  Understand the requirements and comply with lone worker reporting and safety guidelines.
