The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. Job Overview

 

The Supervisor, Claims - Casualty (Property Liability) contributes to Wawanesa's goal of delivering an exceptional and consistent claims service experience by providing leadership to the claims team, focusing on the achievement of key business goals and member experience standards​ 
 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • ​​Provide leadership and direction to support the Casualty claims teams, with a focus on properly managing the significant financial component associated with Casualty claims.
  • ​Provide timely and proactive communication to the claims teams and ensure they can in turn effectively respond to all inquiries in a timely and professional manner. 
  • ​Leadership of teams handling Casualty claims of low to high complexity, including large loss. 
  • ​Contribute to employee development and performance management through effective feedback and coaching on the development of skills and competencies. 
  • ​Encouraging others to implement better approaches to address problems and opportunities. 
  • ​Leading the implementation and acceptance of change within the workplace. 
  • ​Achieve key metrics targets by organizing, monitoring workflow and setting priorities to ensure maximum efficiency and productivity as guided by corporate policies, procedures and business plans. 
  • ​Provide guidance and support to adjusters in the review and interpretation of policy wordings and coverage. 
  • ​Conduct claim file reviews and coach team to strive for continuous improvement and development by setting and tracking individual and team performance targets.
  • ​Provide direction and leadership in areas such as Liability determination, investigation, policy interpretation, settlement, negotiations and establishing reserves for claims. 
  • ​Utilize reporting to monitor and address emerging trends in the areas of reserving, severity and the external environment.
  • ​Demonstrating and maintaining excellent knowledge and understanding of policy coverages, while complying with regional regulatory and licensing requirements (as applicable). 
  • ​Remain current in of legislative changes, industry and competitive market trends to support process improvements and exceptional claims handling. 
  • ​Other responsibilities and projects as they arise​.

Qualifications

 

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the Property & Casualty insurance industry, with a strong focus on liability coverage.
  • 1-2 years of people management experience considered an asset.
  • ​Exceptional customer service skills demonstrating empathy and concern for member satisfaction. 
  • ​Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate at the right level for the audience. 
  • ​Strong leadership skills including the ability to positively motivate, coach and engage teams. 
  • ​Highly proficient time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work in a fast paced, changing environment. 
  • ​Excellent knowledge of policy wordings in all lines of business, corporate guidelines, policies and procedures. 
  • ​Excellent investigative, negotiating and analytical skills. 
  • ​Post-secondary degree is preferred. 
  • ​Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP), or working towards designation and where required, dedicated to reach the proper licensing requirements.​
